I read through some of the news and updates thead, and it was referred to as an expansion, but it doesn't seem top add in any way to the grand campaign to Empire. So, what is it? An expansion pack, or a stand-alone product?

Originally it was meant to be an expansion but CA decided to make it a stand-alone release. There was some vague talk awhile ago that some features from NTW would bepatched into ETW but that is very doubtful.
