    Default very large unit sizes

    hi chaps,

    Ive seen some screenshots, in them are units of line infantry with 250 or so men. Normally i play with 120 men per line infantry unit.

    DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW i CAN MAKE THE units this big, at 250 men? Do I need a mod for this?

    1: Do other effects of mods bother you?

    what he means with "other effects" are probably new textures among other things, i think he is hinting at Darth mod, so read it's description

    oh yeah im fine with the plentiful and wondrous improvements Darthmod will surely bring, I thought he meant negative effects, crashes and errors and what.

    Make sure you can see hidden folders and look in;

    VISTA or Windows 7 - C:\Users\(Your User Name Here)\AppData\Roaming\The Creative Assembly\Empire\scripts

    or

    XP - C:\Documents and Settings\(Your User Name Here)\Application Data\The Creative Assembly\Empire\scripts

    --

    Open the preferences.empire_script.txt and look for;

    campaign_unit_multiplier 1; # campaign_unit_multiplier <float>, Set default unit multiplier for campaign #

    Change the multiplier from 1 to something like 1.75 or 2, save the file and start Empire.

    Viola! Bigger units!

    Hi there.
    Be mindfull though, cause the above described method for changing unit size, has some really annoying drawbacks. Like, for example, you can no longer garrison line infantry in most buildings, it causes severe pathfinding problems when moving around units in formation. It also gives artillery some problems, because they route as soon as the first wolley has been fired...Due to own fire. The additional men in an arty unit may intentionally place them selves in front of the cannons, and then......well, guess what.

    Are you sure it works for saved games as well? I just tryed to modify by changing to 1.5 or 1.25 and units did stay exact same as before ( 120 ) seems it do not affect save game at all even after 1 more turn.

    It will not affect units currently built in savegames, it will affect NEW units recruited.

    You will still have old units that will never be the same size as the new units, however, so I recommend changing this BEFORE starting a campaign.

    Actualy it wont. Any change to unit size in save game wont take any effect. Not to curently build units and or new recruited.

    For difrent unit size you HAVE to start new game or effect simply wont take an place.

    Yes, I was totally mistaken! +rep for combing through and doing quality control!

    This doesn't work for savegames like I thought.

    In all the unit size editing that was done in my modding career I must have been thinking of DB unit size changes vs vanilla startpos unit sizes!

    Does Darthmod solve the problems you bring up Morten?
    "Every idea is an incitement. It offers itself for belief and if believed it is acted on unless some other belief outweighs it or some failure of energy stifles the movement at its birth. The only difference between the expression of an opinion and an incitement in the narrower sense is the speaker's enthusiasm for the result. Eloquence may set fire to reason." -Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr.

    Hueg unit sizes are overated, IMO. They maps aren't big enough to make wandering around with 200+ units of line infantry anything other than annoying.

    Hi there.
    Agreed, but who am I to say other wise, since I know from experience. It just does not look right with units larger than the max pre set by CA.

    Idk, having 300 per Line inf regiment looks pretty legit. I certainly would hate to go back to 160.
