Default No roads in Moria and Mountain Fort

I don't know if this is a bug or intended, but there no longer are roads in the Moria and the Mountain Fort region. Even if the building panel says you have roads, and you paid for them, they don't show on the map. And it isn't only that you can't see them, but they really don't exist- movement is agonizingly slow around there.

The spoke of the road in the Cerin Amroth region that led to Moria isn't there either, so in fact the entire network is missing. However, Goblin town which is also a cave region, has roads.

I belive this was done intentionally in order to slow down the AI from taking over the OotMM.

I don't think it matters if you see a visual road or not. If a road is build in any region, you get + movement speed in that region, regardless of whether you're walking on visual roads or not.

No you need to walk on the roads to get the movement point bonus.

Mountain movement should be very slow regardless IMHO.

There's probably a better solution than this. It's kinda like taking crutches away from a cripple so he doesn't get beaten with them.

Is it mountain movement or tunnels? I could see moving in mine shafts and the like as being similar to moving on roads. In any case, see above, it just makes it more annoying for players and does nothing but delay the inevitable for the AI.

Well it's far better looking without them. I'm actually quite satisfied that they've removed them visually.

Well if they were intentionally removed, they should also be removed from the building roster, so you don't waste good money on them.

I think you get extra moving-points even without seeing the roads visually. Perhaps they could make a new icon (and roadtype), like they did with the elves (forest path, can't remember if that's the correct name though). But it would only apply to those settlements within the mountain-region.

I don't know, I have paved roads built at Moria, Mountain Fort and Goblin Town. But when I tried to march units from Goblin Town to Moria they chose to walk outside of the mountains instead of though the mountains like they had in 1.3.

No you dont get extra mp I think. When you move units across a long distance, it will always try to walk on the road. Also, say you are walking on a vertical road. The green thing that shows you how much you can move will be diamond shaped because you can move more on the road but less w/o it. Maybe people dont notice because the game makes you go on the road automatically?

I suspect that the roads got accidentally erased and not put back in when KK redid the mountains. I'm pretty sure something was changed about them, graphically.

If he had intentionally removed the roads, per se, I'm sure he would have also removed the ability to build them.

And no, they're not "invisible," my troops always by default chose the long route through elf territory when I wanted to move them from Moria to Goblin Town etc.

Apparently roads are not drawn by map makers, the game automatically places them depending on terrain type and other factors.

I'm not totally adverse to the idea of no roads inside caves, it has some logic although given a choice I think I would choose to keep them. However, it is not only the cave roads but also parts of the roads in neighboring regions which are missing, the spokes which join to Moria and Mountain fort from Cerin Amroth (as can be seen in the OP), Goblin Town, Fangorn and that other region to the west of the Misty Mountains (I don't recall the name). This has a major impact on movement in all the region, for example if you are moving from Cerin Amroth to Fangorn you have to go through a great part without roads.

Also, there is the fact that Moria is great as a major strategic base, a very good place to build excellent troops and also to rebuild them at lowered cost; whether you are the OoMM or another conquering faction. But it loses value if the troops you move in/out of there take forever to redeploy.

Sorry to go of the topic, but what does that mean?

And i would also like to keep the roads. At least as the dwarves are masters of engineering, for me it's funny they cant built roads in Khazad-Dûm, a city that was theirs before . Maybe not deeper in the mountains, but i think the roads should be built at least towards lorien and eregion

Well if you assume the roads are underground and not above ground (not visually capable do to game engine limits though) it's not hard to assume that there could be some type of road system as both Dwarves and Orcs were capable of carving out roadways underground given enough time.

I could mod roads back in, if I get some feedback and input.

I assume there is some interest. I'm curious where people think there should be roads in the Misty Mountains, and would like to hear lore positions as well as simple gameplay reasons. I can probably make them look less funky, as well, with some work on elevations.

Also, the connecting "canyon" that runs from Moria up to Goblin town, do those represent tunnels and mines? Or mountain paths above-ground? If they are caves, I could also change the terrain of that path to Mordor's black, though I am not certain what side-effects it would have. (Well, palm trees, for one.) And the skybox would still show a sun.
