End turn button not working in Windows 7 64 bit

Hello, I am using Windows 7, 64 bit, 8 gb ram, two hard drives with the os installed on one and games installed on the other. I have a fully patched MTW2 and Kingdoms patched installed. Initially no Mods were installed but then I installed the Retrofit Mod 1.0 to see if the problem might disappear.

I have been playing a vanilla Grand Campaign with the HRE for a number of turns. Yesterday the arrow buttons for choosing the next settlement, the faction shield button, and the End turn hourglass button no longer work. Earlier saved games work but not the last two. Starting a new campaign has all the buttons working correctly. Is there any way the reverse the corrupted save game file? Is there any way to prevent it from happening? I installed the Retrofit Mod hoping it might recover the saved game but I had the same error. Would it help to install a different patch fixing Mod or a different campaign Mod?

As a background this is a brand new computer, as my older one did not have the horsepower to play MTW2. I haven't played since Kingdoms came out. I tried searching for other threads but could not find any that addressed this problem.

I found out a long time ago that mods do not cure problems with vanilla install.

If I can play vanilla Medieval2 and the four Knigdoms campaigns with no problems of lockups, bad saves, video glitches, sound glitches, etc., then it's time for a mod that may have made gameplay my way.

Having said that, my system is not as good as yours but close. You have twice the ram I do, and an ATI card versus my Nvidia. And I ma running Win7 64bit Pro of which means I am also XP compatible.

Have you tried reinstalling it to seeif that cures the problem? It would not be the first bad install and the way this installler is written it won't be the last.
Even though the game loads directx 9.0c that's five years old, have updated it manually? It has been known to cause problems.
What version of ATI driers are you using? They have a bearing on such graphic things.
Have you manually run Windows Update and installed all its optional software since you installed Win 7? This will update .Net framework and Windows Media Player without having to do it manually.

Irishron, thanks for the quick reply.
Mods can't cure problems? You're right. If I really thought about it they can only change settings, not the mechanics of the game engine.
reinstalling? I just installed MTW2 a week ago, a week after installing windows 7 Ultimate on a virgin PC (all new components). After registering with microsoft, more automatic updates were installed, as well as German and Japanese language inputs.
Direct X - Version 11, the installer skipped over installing version 9.
ATI Drivers - Full catalyst version 9.12 64 bit.
.Net - version 3.5 is installed but not fully enabled. The "Windows Features" Menu, in Installed Updates -> Turn Windows features on or off - it shows the box as a filled box. The "Windows Communication Foundation HTTP" & "Non-HTTP" settings are not enabled.
Media Player - Media Center is now set-up, though I am also using Media player classic - Home Cinema x64

As an aside everything seemed to be going good, sounds were correct, I fought a few battles, fought a castle siege, used my merchants. It was wierd how the interface was not reacting to my button clicks, yet I could scroll throught the settlements via the keyboard. And I could use the buttons on the detail page of the settlement to move to the next settlement. I had to double click on a settlement to initially open it up. But since there is no keyboard command to end one's turn it looks like I am stuck. Does anyone have a solution?

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en is the link to directx 9.0c. I did it with the UAC at its lowest level. All else fails download it to your desktop and run it from there.

To accomplish all this you need to log in as admin and have full rights. Missing buttons and good things are all graphis tied to .Net and it has to be enabled. Check the properties of your box and see if it is set read-only.

Thanks, I ran the web based installer form the link. It seemed to install a few items. I thought I had everything installed for directx 9.0 since 11 was installed. The UAC didn't come up for me but since I am logged in as an administrator there are only a few programs that have to ask for permission.
I enabled the two other settings for .Net 3.5.
I still couldn't use my latest saved games, the buttons still did not work. Starting from the "autosave" the buttons worked. I guess I will have to save early and save often... Hopefully it was a one time error.

Which box should I check to see if it is read-only? Sorry I didn't understand what you meant.

Right-click any file or icon, click properties, and at the bottom you will see boxes for read-only and hidden.

You can use that on certain files to keep the game from changing them.

You can also check there to see if some mod checked it on you so you cn't edit it.

Corrupt saves do happen at times, especially if you play a long time without saving.
