    Default Using reinforcements question

I am having a hard time figuring this out and I couldnt find the answer via searches:

lets say I attack an enemy fortification with 3 units.. there is my main one and the other two in the other bracket.. it will have two check boxes.. one for AI control and the other for 'command this army'

when the battle starts.. even when i give them siege equipment and all that good stuff.. and if i put them on aggressive stance (or whatever) they just stand there doing nothing.

How do i make it so If im in front starting and they are on either sides.. so we all ambush them str8 up?

--> How do i utilize those other armies so theyre not just sitting there doing nothing?

    Thanks..

I know this is my first post.. but i read what ever says and keep updated every couple days

Hmmmm... Well I use SS6.2 and the reinforcement armies work there. Since I can't control them I don't give them a general and I make them all mêlée troops so I don't suffer from friendly fire. I must really suck at commanding troops cuz must of the time my back up troops make a far better showing than me. Once or twice I have given then siege machines and they have used them. They do use the towers and rams they build to good effect.

Someone should be along to address your direct questions in a bit. Welcome to the TWC Forums....methodicaltruth...

I check neither box. The reinforcing army deploys in its corner and once they step in to the battle map, I can control them the same way I control my other units.

Controlling reinforcements is finnicky, but worthwhile.

Consider reinforcements to be a moderate boon. Something that tips the scale a bit. If you can utilize them right, they are decisive, and more often than not ive found myself singing the praises of the reinforcement system.

before a battle, check both boxes if you want your allies to march onto the field with you and you want some say in there directives.

Once in a battle, things are a bit different. Know that the AI will react in different ways depending what mode you set them at. Sometimes, agressive mode will leave the army standing like a bunch of idiots in the middle of nowhere, other times, this happens for defensive mode. its generally left up to the player to fiddle with and work out.

I have observed this though: if neither defencive nor agressive modes work, consider this: try placing the army on the defencive, then selecing the army as seen on the top right corner and right-clicking where you generally want the force to be. usually, this can get the force moving. If your in a rush, consider ordering your allies to go to defencive mode. At times, this can cause the allied army to run to your force at the swiftest speed and join up with it to create one massive host. I like doing this the most with my allies, when you can successfully merge 2 armies like this on the battlefield, you stand a vastly better chance of crushing your foes. Aggressive mode is good if there are enemies nearby or you want the allied group to be autonomous and not need micromanagement. This usually works, though sometimes the force does nothing or attacks a force too large for it to handle.

With regards to only giving the allies infantry, i would have to disagree. The AI is no better at not hiting your forces as your own ranged units are, and an AI with skirmishers makes for a wonderful distraction for your foe, who usually dispatches key units to fight off these troops.

Hope that helped some, sorry for bad spelling.

Is there no way them to control them completely as my own units? And what be required to click on the battle info screen?

If you tick no boxes, you will controll them. However, you can only have 20 unit cards at a time, the units that can't be controlled will stand just outside the battlefield and watch. Only when a unit is annihilated or has routed out of the field a new one will join.

If you're commanding more about 28 or more units, it is well worth to let them join the fight and have some kind of control, by ticking both boxes.

is there any way to make it so you can control more than 20 units (going in with a fully group)?

they usually just seem unclickable and uncontrollable.. but ill check it out in a few.

is there a mod addition or something to be changed in a file than can allow for more than just 20 unit control? be nice going in with 60 units of archers:-P

No, it's hard coded, like many anoying features (i.e: you need to talk to a princess, you can't talk to her father, bad AI, and many, many other things)
