any help using KGC with vista?

okay, my medievall II or any kingdoms games wont work unless i run them as administrator but because of the setup required to play the KGC mod i can't give it administrator privelages, is there any other start-up form (other than the current shortcut) or way around this so i CAN play this

Strange? personally i turn user accoubnt control off completely its well kinda of a pain for modding and using mods.

GO to your control panel from there the user accounts and family settings page and in here you can select the main user account section and on this is a setting which merely says switch user account control on or off. I know why vista made this but well it is a terrible function one that hides core files from you in hidden files and splits your gaming files into three places instead of 1 easy to use location

SOOOOOOOO Sorry to be such a pest, done that, got it ALL working EXEPT the only units i can create on custom game is the fire thrower for england, i think all others work...

Reinstall the mod. The User Control must have blocked the installation's files

so sorry to keep this thread going, i'm a failure

got it all working, all units their and everything but theres was no heds-up-display AT ALL, i was staring at just a battlefeild (as it looks normally) with a white box at the bottom

okay, well, it now works but the only trebuchet thing is back 2, ill get a fresh download of KGCM and athen use the hot fix and see how we go, ty for the help guys

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!, so fed up with vista!!!! it says i have to give it administrator privellages EVEN when i turn the account security thing off, and because of the (no offense, slightly weird) shortcut and the black box thing (i fail at technical terms) i cant give it administrator privelages. is their any way to give KGCM a 'standard' shortcut or does it have to have all the extra bits (medieval2.kingdoms_grand_campaign_mod.cfg and medieval2_kingdoms_grand_campaign_mod - batch file)

have you tried to make a short cut of the batch file? if you open the KGCM file up there will be a batch file that if double clicked will open the game make a short cut of this on your desktop to start the mod.

I believe it still asks for permission how you have done it now because although you turned UAC off the game was installed with it on so files are in aptdata file and the sega file (and a hidden file) its a pain i know but when i discovered this anoyance 8 months ago i turned uac off deleted med2 completely and then with UAC off re installed the whole game as this then makes it load the game as it would running xp

Alot of hassle i know but its the best method but try the batch file first but be aware that many submods will not work with a game where the files are split as when you install a submod it will put it in the regular place while the install under UAC game will have hidden the real file in the aptdata file so it will cause huge HUGE headaches. sorry there is no better answer for you i feel your pain i was there almostsent hate mail to Microsoft LOL.

thanks and i'll try it, it's such a shame because medievall II is such a great game and so is this mod, beggining to get tired with vista but not much chance of upgrading to windows 7 (WICH WAS MY IDEA!!!!) ty for your help and uf that doesn't work ima give up and go watch srubs

to sumarise, im going to uninstall, KGCM, uninstall M-2-TW Gold, turn the UAC off again and then re-install everything, if all else fails i can take solace in the fact that Dr. Cox hates JD and yet he can make it funny...

You know windows 7 has UAC to dont you ?? It is actually a saftey program it is ment to hide core files so that another user or someone who has hooked into your pc over the net cant acess major files and ruin your pc or have access to your details used online credit cards bank details etc.
But for gaming and modding it is an eternal pain in the you know what

I have windows 7 and I turned the User Control off and everything works fine

Certainly it would Holy mate just like vista works fine with it switched off( and you install games with it off so it doesnt already hide the files in aptdata and the hiden file). Like i say i know why they have made this feature it just rather painfull is all but there is as always a work around

I am planning to move to windows 7 as it seems to take the best of vista and drop all the un needed (and hugely ram burning features) plus add a simple quick interface looks good to me mate UAC aside which is as stated easy to turn off on either operating system .

You could also try editing the Security settings of your M2TW directory once you reinstall (right click on the main folder, select Properties, go to the Security tab, and change SYSTEM, your user account, and Administrators to Full Permission). This solved problems for me. Also, I'm not familiar with M2TW Gold, but if it doesn't automatically install Kingdoms Patch 1.5 on to your game, Google it, download it and install it too before you install KGCM.

i have vista and 2 partition on hard drive, C:/ is for system file and everything very important, and D:/ is for games and other stuff less important and i have no problem
with vista since i do not forget to change C: to D: with auto-installer. I Think vista have not the same security setting for C: drive(where windows is installed) than other drive.
