As compared to the vanilla version of M2:TW Kingdoms, the time it takes to wait for the AI factions in SS 6.1 to complete their turns is waaaaay longer.
I wonder if there is any solution to this? I hate waiting.

What I did before was give only 1 town/city per faction so the initial 20 turns or so is reasonably fast. It was surprisingly exciting because after the initial land grab the faction borders are somewhat different each time.
Or you could do the mainstays: remove campaign map shadows or prop a tv near you so you can watch something while waiting. Or you can remove the merchants.

Get a good book.
Go back to vanilla, get a better computer (might lower the time by one minute) or find something else to do. If you run the game windowed, you can browse the web while the AI makes it's moves.

Actually the merchant thing isn't a bad idea. Trade of resources could still occur automatically by the district in which the resource belongs to. They did this it LOTR (3rd age) and turns take under 10 seconds compared to about a minute in SS. Although, other factors obviously also come into play so its a bit like comparing apples to oranges (just saying though, it could be worth trying even if it take mere 10 seconds of waiting still be worth it). It can really be frustrating by mid-game when all the nations have developed having to wait for a minute each turn. If there's one bane I have with SS its this.![]()

I remember a post from over a year ago that had some great suggestions for speeding up the turns. And they worked pretty well. I've tried searching for it, but have had no luck (or enough patience). The solution involved deleting certain files and editing others, specifically the event file. I've just begun playing SS6.2 after almost a year away from Total War (I'm not even going to try Empire, for the record), and I've tried to recreate whatever it was I did before to shorten the turns, but without success.
If anyone else remembers the post or the suggestions it made, please reply here. Like the OP, I just hate wasting so much of my life waiting on the turns to pass. If I want to read a book, I'll read a book and not play a game, so that really isn't a viable solution for me. And to the guy who suggests getting a new cpu, I've read about dudes with quad core rigs that have problems with the turn lengths.

Well with the patch ss 6.1 if you have it you might try at the begging unticking all the box's when your installing patch 6.1 it speeds it up a bit.
(this is only if they were ticked when you first installed it, if your even using 6.1)
I've never measured it, but turning of "watch AI moves" helps alot. Did for me anyway.
In the beginning this irritated me but now not anymore, after each turn I stand up to stretch my legs, get some drink or food
It feels like the AI takes his time to choose what he is going to do wich gives me the feeling that he isn't doing stupid fast things.

Yes, almost like you're fighting a human! (A human that makes his decission in very few seconds)
