    Default Many questions need help!

I just downloaded the mod the i already like it a lot, but i am a little lost....
    1. When i look at some factions i see that you can only build the lowest level barracks in castles, only producing peasants?Where did the other units go?
    2. When using militia heavy factions like Flanders will militia have any free upkeep in castles?
    3. Are ranged units really worth it?
    4. Why do generals bodyguard move so slow?
    5. Lastly which faction do you prefer and why?
Thanks in advance for any replies.

1.You've got to earn a certain amount of military points before you can upgrade castles. Also there's got to be a general there to build upgrades.
2.Yes. And they 've got amazing militia troops even.
    3. My missile units often get the most kills during a fight. But I guess it's more a case of personal taste. If you prefer infantry only armies , for example , just go for it and build your infantry army and develop some nice infantry tactics.
4.Very heavy armor + horse armor I reckon.
5.All of them. Why not? I'm currently playing with Flanders as this is my first DLV game , and I've never seen nor played this faction before + I live there. Next grand campaign will be some other faction , prolly somewhere in the east.

Here are some tips for Flanders that I use which work decently well:
    1) I started by allying with England and the HRE (Denmark a little later) and getting relations to perfect (Often happens automatically). In addition, work on getting government points up so you can upgrade Bruges to the next settlement level for merchant's guild. There are a lot of easy missions to do that help with this.

    2) Send the starting merchant down to trade the spices near Venice. They are very valuable and even a level 5 merchant can bring in nearly 1000 extra florins.

    3) build up as large an army as you can reasonably maintain and hoarding money until the inevitable French invasion comes. This is easy considering Bruges makes a lot of money + the merchant in Venice bringing in spices.

    4) Most importantly, be very careful. Flanders starts with only a few family members, only one general, and incapable of recruting any decent troops. When the French invaded, I was taking on mounted and foot knights, even templars, with at best sergeant spearmen but usually militia. Mercenaries are your only hope.

    5) France usually gets bogged down in many wars. Hopefully England and HRE enter on your side, but often the French also end up at war with Castille and the League. They also tend to get excommunicated, so call a crusade on Paris to draw in even more international support.

Unfortunately for me my gains were offset by my own excommunication. My ruler lived to be 101 and the Pope who excommunicated me is still living (he is 96) so there was no getting out of that one. Poland took Bruges on a crusade(!) and I had to give Rheims back to France in a peace deal so I could free up men to retake Bruges. I have three family members, all over 60 and a girl who is only eight years old. Essentially I am back where I started.
I hope you have better luck!

I would rather build up my colonys around the world. Install puppet governments, recive military access, trade rights, take the forts, install your merchants...
Thorolf was thus armed. Then Thorolf became so furious that he cast his shield on his back, and, grasping his halberd with both hands, bounded forward dealing cut and thrust on either side. Men sprang away from him both ways, but he slew many. Thus he cleared the way forward to earl Hring's standard, and then nothing could stop him. He slew the man who bore the earl's standard, and cut down the standard-pole. After that he lunged with his halberd at the earl's breast, driving it right through mail and body, so that it came out at the shoulders; and he lifted him up on the halberd over his head, and planted the butt-end in the ground. There on the weapon the earl breathed out his life in sight of all, both friends and foes. [...] 53, Egil's Saga
I must tell you here of some amusing tricks the Comte d'Eu played on us. I had made a sort of house for myself in which my knights and I used to eat, sitting so as to get the light from the door, which, as it happened, faced the Comte d'Eu's quarters. The count, who was a very ingenious fellow, had rigged up a miniature ballistic machine with which he could throw stones into my tent. He would watch us as we were having our meal, adjust his machine to suit the length of our table, and then let fly at us, breaking our pots and glasses.
