Default Stupid question: How do I download and install TLR?

I'm new at TWCenter, and to be honest I'm quite confused about where to download this mod. I have done some reading, but it just adds to the confusion - the wiki links to a page says the latest version is 2.0, yet 2.3 is out?

Anyway, can someone tell me how to install the latest version of this mod? It looks really good, but where do I get it? Do I need 2.0 AND 2.3? Are there instructions somewhere? I'm not really used to installing mods.

Hey, Im new here too and had the same trouble that you are having and after a lot of trial and error i figured it out. So here is what i did.

Step 1: Dwonload TLR 2.0 from here http://games.on.net/file/13849/The_Long_Road_Medieval_2_Total_War_Mod__Client_v2.0.0

Step 2: Download TLR 2.3 from here http://www.twcenter.net/forums/downloads.php?do=file&id=2649

Step 3: Download TLR 2.3.3c patch from here http://www.twcenter.net/forums/downloads.php?do=file&id=2651

Step 4: Install TLR 2.0 with installer

Step 5: Now go to "The_Long_Road" folder in your M2TW folder and rename the "data" folder inside to anything else. Then put your TLR 2.3 data folder in "The_Long_Road" folder.

Setp 6: Copy & Paste the 2.3.3c patch data folder into "The_Long_Road" folder and overwrite anything it asks about.

Step 7: Start M2TW just like normal and select The Long Road from the menu.

Note: when you put the 2.3 data folder into "The_Long_Road" folder make sure to rename the origanal data folder first this in my time playing the game helps to get rid of a bug that causes the game to crash every few turns. It doesnt totaly go away but it akes it happen like every 8-9 turns instead of 1-2

So thats what i did, it seems a little complicated and i may have put a couple extra steps in there but it works and is a danm fun mod. Anyways I hope you enjoy it.

    Peace, crazymonky123.

Edit: if you have the steam version like I do make sure to put the corect install path in the 2.0 installer.

Great instructions, very helpful thx.Just a note on step5.
Step 5: Now go to "The_Long_Road" folder in your M2TW folder and rename it to anything else. The put your TLR 2.3 data folder in "The_Long_Road" folder.

Surely the folder will not be called The_Long_road as you just renamed it something else??
    Can you clarify please.
Thaks, sorry for being a bit dim

When I start MTW2 I do not see the Long Road as an option on the game menu. Nor do I see it on the launcher. I guess I installed it wrong.

Could it be that The_Long_Road folder within the MTW2 folder is actually meant to be in the mods folder?

    HELP!

I've been playing mtw2 for ages, I've even gone back to it after pre-ordering the collectors edition (wooden) box set of Empire (and then abandoning it after a few weeks) and now it's well and truly played out.

I figured it might be time to give moding a go so I did some reasearch and settled on The Long Road; it seems to have everything I've ever wanted in Medieval Total War, it's practically a new game. But now, after 10 straight hours and a lot of anticipation *it doesn't bloody work!*

    Here's what I've done.
    * Uninstalled mtw2 with its own uninstall utility.
    * Separately uninstalled each of the 4 Mods that came with a previous installation of Kingdoms (no longer have the CD) using control panel.
    * Physically deleted c:\program files\sega\medieval II total war after the 2 previous steps seem to have left it entirely alone.
    * Emptied the recycle bin and restarted the computer to purge the last vestige of any old instalations.

    * Re-installed mtw2 from my legal store bought set complete with CD key.
    * downloaded and installed updates 1.2 and 1.3 as per the instructions at www.totalwar.com - support - medievalII.
    * Followed the following instructions (at least I'm pretty sure I did), including the last part.

    What's happening now:
Medieval still works fine if I use it the old standard way but if I go in with The Long Road it just flat out doesn't work.

I tried playing as the Byzantines and it loads fine but after the first or second turn parse it crashes, then crashes again from a save making it impossible to go on. The "This England" save game that it comes with doesn't work at all.

Rather than give up entirely I had a go installing TLR 2.4 with 2.4.1 over the top as instructed here and when I went back to continue campeign I got bumped into a Sicilian faction game I've never seen. Just to see what would happen I clicked through a few turns of Sicilians without doing anything and it seemed fine so I went back to my own (very short) Byzantine campeign. Same, exactly the same, still doesn't work. What's going on? Why doesn't it work? What can I do differently? Is there a patch I haven't used? Is there some option I can choose or way to start it up differently? WHAT DO i DO?!

Please, somebody help me before I reduce my computer to its componant parts.

I've played around with it some more and upon further reflection it may not be a problem with my installation, it might acutally be a bug in the mod.

For the half dozen or so turns I played England and Milan both seem to work fine. Byzantium, on the other hand, still crashes on the second parse even if I do literally nothing except push the turn button.

If it is a bug I hope it's fixed soon becuase Byzantium is perhaps the faction I'd most like to play with this mod; I've played all the other factions that interest me but Byzantium always had a really silly setup in the standard game and I was looking foward to seeing it done right.

The other thing is, if there's such a huge bug in the game I'm a bit nervous now to invest a lot of time in playing one of the "working" factions if it turns out to have the same problem as Byzantium later on.

Finally, just thinking out loud: when I re-installed Medieval I lost the standard games recognition of all the campeigns I've played so the standard game no longer recognizes Byzantium as a playable faction. On the other hand, it doesn't recognize Milan either and that seems to work fine under TLR, at least for the few (more than three) turns I played it.

Anyway, hoping someone on here has some ideas.
    Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the dl links, very helpful. The links in the sticky for the 2.0 dl weren't working for me. And the instructions are sure to help quite a bit more.

Guys thank heavens for these great instructions - I never understood the point of having an amazing mod but not providing links and installation instructions. Anyway after two weeks of stuggling, I am now going to use these links and guide. Rock on!
