    Default Adding "general_unit" question

Not sure if this is a silly question but I like to sometimes add a general to a unit I like and when I did this to the Swordmasters of Hoeth the general was the "mounted general" w/out a mount so he kind of just disappeared into the ground. Is there a way to make it so a general for the Swordmasters would be the swordmaster model that you see if you select the swordmasters for the Custom Battle? When I would add the "general_unit" in the descr file for other mods this would never happen so I am kind of curious. Thanks!

If you want a general to be a Swordsmaster, just follow these instructions:

First, open the EDU (export_descr_unit.txt) and find "Swordmaster" and copy the "type" line
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
    High Elf Swordmaster

Now open the descr_strat in the imperial_campaign folder (C:\Program Files\SEGA\Medieval II Total War\mods\teutonic\data\world\maps\campaign\imperial_campaign) and find a High Elf general (for this example, I'm going to use Finubar). Replace the first (and in this case, only) unit with the "type" line you copied.

His section should now look like this:
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
    character Finubar, named character, male, leader, age 61, x 26, y 144, label phoenix_king1, portrait phoenix_king
    traits Factionleader 1 , GoodCommander 1 , Intelligent 2 , VictorVirtue 3 , PublicFaith 2 , BattleDread 2 , StrategyDread 2 , ReligionStarter 1, elf 1
    army
unit High Elf Swordmaster exp 9 armour 0 weapon_lvl 1

Now he's a High Elf Swordmaster! You can apply this method to change any general to any unit that you desire.

That's not what he's asking. He's asking if he can change the model for the High Elves to be the swordmaster model.

There are a couple of issues with this first of all - namely that the model is equipped with a 2 Handed Weapon, and the animation for the High Elven General is that it's a standard Generals animation.

However, the simplest way would be to go into the unit_models, and take the swordmaster model and texture, and place it over the High Elven General and Captain Model (once they're appropriately renamed of course). This will mean your general/captain will be using his 6-7 foot long greatsword like a normal person would use a short sword.

Would you really want it any other way?

Yes. I'd like it to be used as a Great sword is used.

So strike me down for wanting some slight degree of physical realism to a game.

I wouldn't mind seeing the Warrior Priest as a general unit. I was all giddy when I saw the 'Sigmar Banner', or whatever its called for Reikland, as a Warrior Priest stood in front of the banner on the cart carrying them looking all blessed. It seems like a waste to just see them filling in the 'Priest' role on the campaign map.

Or is there any Warrior Priest unit who sees combat?

I'm going off what I've played in the game, and I have not played every County as of yet.
