I know 3 "versions" of orcs:
1) Tolkien Orcs: grey to black
2) The Dark Eye (RPG P&P): Black with "fur"
3) Warhammer (and the fake of warhammer: warcraft): Green with red hair
I think, a First Age Mod should follow Tolkiens "way"..![]()

Some Orcs in Moria, in the Fellowship of the ring, are described having green leather![]()
Yes, but that's the end of the Third Age. This mod is about the First Age and the Silmarillion clearly states that the Orcs were Elves, mutilated by Melkor. Thus it's possible that they would still be not too distant from the Elves and only later become greenish with time (imagine it like Smeagol's gradual transformation to Gollum, only with a several times longer time). Unless, of course, there's a quote from the Silmarillion, describing them as something different (the only thing I remember is that they're weak and crooked, or something like that).
Otherwise, I rather like the Orcs here and especially the masks on their faces.
I think Beorn comment was to say orcs are not forcefully grey or black, but some might be greenish too. He did not say all orcs were green or whatever
But you are making a point on the fact that orcs in the 1st might differ from the ones in 3rd age. After all the war of the ring is taking place more than 7,000 years after this mod takes place if i calculate correctly
If you consider human beings some 7,000 years ago, they were pretty different from today's men.
In addition, one must also say that just read into the movies a lot. What is not so in the books, I would not really aware that in the books is a bit of green. I know that the Uruk, the Uruk Hai are described as dark brown to black. And the Orcs from Moria to be very much smaller and more crooked. But .. the color?
Yes, that is, over time, true, I would imagine well that some of the Orcs from Angband a bit "Elvish" look a like as the orcs in the Third Age.

As I have already said in the TWZ, I really like the Orcs. Even the masks.

I don't really know about the Orcs of Moria being green(ish) in LotR, the only greenish-skinned Orcs that I remember are from The Hobbit, about the Goblins (/Orcs) of the Misty Mountains (you know, the ones that captured Bilbo and the Dwarves and brought them in the mountain tunnels where Bilbo eventually found the Ring). They're probably just a local variation, like birds of the same type can have slightly different feather colours in different parts of the world.
Hmm, I see they used my belt, quiver, bow, sword and other few things I made textures for, for those angband light archers. Glad to see that they put it to use. I sort of lost contact with the people at that team and can't be helping them much thereforIf skiph or anyone else is still around, let me know, please.
Hell I realize I ain't the best, but I'm still polishing those Photoshop skills and am willing to help
So Skiph or Nikita, if you guys are still around, drop me a PM sometime soon![]()

Well I just spoke to PaHer here once again - glad I could get in contact with you guys again - and I've resumed work on this mod and texturing. Let's hope we can get our work done as soon as possible.![]()
Nice, PaHer!
+rep to you and Aruthiel
Orcs should have greyish skin, ist clearly stated so in Silmarilion even do Tolkien sometimes writes something than completely another thing
but I think you wont make a mistake with greyish skin, and too much of "orcish elvish origin" might lead you to wrong trail
Thanks for the rep to the kind sir above
on to the orcs: I wouldn't worry too much about it, in the end - orcs are just cannonfodder. When you assault the elves I doubt you'll send a few hundred orcs against a few hundred elves - you'll probably be sending a few thousand, and colours tend to blend a bit when looking at that many
I'm certain that if we're unhappy about the tan of orcs, or textures in general - we'll be heading back at some point in the future to fix them![]()
Great orcs!! Great work!! Keep walking guys!! +rep!!![]()
While elves are mentioned as a possible progenitor to the orcs through the deprivations of Morgoth, the vagueness of the timeline in the Vala Quenta means that we dont have a clear idea of how long Morgoth had to corrupt things into orcs. I would assume that the orcs of the Third age are more or less similar in apperance to those in the first age. After all, Morgoth is cast from Arda at the end of the first age, so he couldnt have continued experiementing with them, and sauron never displayed his masters perchant for tinkering with things. To speak to an issue raised earlier, but im to tired to figure out where, While the actual way in which orcs were created by Morgoth is never made clear, the fact that he was able to produce such numbers of them indicates that not all orcs were once human or elven. there would have to be some way for Morgoth to produce orcs that would result in vast numbers. Also, to speak to the issue of Skin color, this seems to be a result of where the orcs lived. Those that spent all of their time underground, such as the ones encountered in the hobbit, seem to generally aquire traits that lead them to be termed goblins, green skin, lanky limbs, large eyes, and a method of running that involves using all four limbs. Whereas those that live above ground are larger, taller, stronger, and have more sun exposure, resulting in their skin being darker, their eyes being smaller, and them walking upright.

Yes, you are absolutely right, my friend - our team have some sort of agreement: to stay possibly out of LotR movie visual style, and thereby possibly out of TATW style too.
And finally don't worry about the orcs faces: elf-like or not - they will be mostly covered by masks.![]()
Greetings lads, very nice job you have done here. I would rep you all, but unfortunately bus is going to school in 5 minutes so I can just give my thanks for hell of a job. These Gondolin units are superb, second to none. I will hope other faction will become as beautiful as Gondolin. Good luck!
