    Icon6 An installer for units

    Hey,

So I had this idea and I'm not sure how difficult it would be to make as I'm completely clueless when it comes to modding but thought I'd throw it out here and see what you guys think.

I often find really great units in all the different mods and unit packs available, however, I'm completely clueless when it comes to changing files, adding stats, etc and don't feel comfortable playing about with the game files too much. Therefore, I don't add more units to my mods as I'm worried about breaking something, plus it could take quite a bit of time if adding a lot of units to a mod. For example, if I wanted to add the spartans from "Warlords Of Sparta" into my XGM mod, I wouldn't be able to do it.

So, my idea is to gather up all the available units (or the most popular ones) from the various mods (that allow for sharing) and unit packs and add them to a database and then make an installer for them that would let players simply select the units they want to add to their mod, select the faction to add them to and the installer would do the rest.

Obviously, this would mean that the stats and details for the unit would need to already be made, so perhaps only add units that have everything ready to be added to a game?

I have no idea if this would even be possible, I'm sure it would cause problems as all mods are different and therefore a global installer may not be possible, perhaps just for the most played mods then?

Let me know what you think

P.S. If anyone does do this, please make it compatible with XGM

that is a TITANIC project, though.

    Game of the Fates
Mod of the week on hold -- I've played nearly every RTW mod out there.
BOYCOTT THE USE OF SMILEYS! (Okay, just once)
Antiochos VII...last true scion of the Seleucid dynasty...rest in peace, son of Hellas.
I've returned--please forgive my long absence.

Nice idea but that is not feasible because each mod is based on other stats of units.
Maybe somebody can do this for one mod?

it is possible, just that u need to write a seperate script or program to sort unit and and able to preview them, and then be able to create merged or combined mod u want... it does take a lot testing and work to do......

but u may run into trouble into too many units and too much mod, then its just playable by ur self, since each person can have its own selection, that is a lot of confusion..........

unless u concentrate on just a few mod like the rtw vanilla, alexander, bi or rtw era edition, unit since they are more standard....

that would save so much time though.
In my case, im trying to put all the greek units from the XGM mod into my vanilla game but its taking way too long to edit all the files.

Units are broken down into several text databases and not forgetting sprite,UI,CAS and texture files.

Only quick way I know is to copy your DMB listed units needed onto a fresh text file and use EDIT->REPLACE to change all the new to XGM format, then transfer over to working DMB when finished. Unfortunately you have similar model name probs with some which affects factions, rebels and desc strat if you change, and even desc buildings,ie how many 'east archer' named units are there, but different models? I learnt this the hard way porting over models from other Mods. Many things to consider.

There seems no easy solution or good ole Aradan,Squid,Redfox or even Divus here etc would have figured it out by now ^_*..
