...as well as books you never hope to watch on the bigscreen!

I've always wondered why "Stranger in a Strange Land" by Robert Heinlein has eluded Hollywood. It's got everything! Sex, religion, riots, Martians...you name it.

"Ringworld" by Larry Niven would be another good one. Hard sci-fi is so rare these days, and this is after all the inspiration for "Halo" so it'd have cross-over potential for Generation XL. Plenty of crappy sequel opportunities too. Niven's written other suitable books, notably "Lucifer's Hammer" which has an excellent scene featuring a Californian surfer riding a tsunami wave through West Hollywood...eventually smashing into the very same apt building my bro lived in ~5 years ago!

"Gates of Fire" and the "Troy" series by David Gemmel. They were going to make "Gates of Fire" into a movie but stupid 300 beat them to it. Also, I guess they can't make Gemmel's "Troy" anytime soon neither. They would both make great movies IMO.

Have you read any Stephen Pressfield or Bernard Cornwell. I tried to read some Eagle books but couldn't get into after reading those two authors whom I think are far better than Scarrow.

This. While I think 300 was a cool movie Gates of Fire just would have been so much more bad ass. I wouldn't mind seeing the "Afghan Campaign" brought to the big screen.

I would also love to see more Master and Commander movies. Even if they did the same thing and took portions from several movies like they did with the one movie it would be so great to see two or three movies following Jack Aubrey and Stephen Maturin. I thought they were perfectly cast and it was such a great age of sail movie! There are 20(1) books to pull stories and meat from to create two more movies! Pleaaaase!

    Isn't it Steven* Pressfield?
Sorry, my first name is Steven as well. Stephen is just lame

But I do totally agree on the need for more sailing movies like Master and Commander.

No I'm pretty sure Stephen is the way it's spelled but I could be wrong. And sorry, but Steven in general is lame either way it's spelled.

indeed, i love all of Cornwell's books.

I also enjoyed Scarrows books, but i do agree that Cornwell is a stronger writer

    It's happening.

Though I think his Napoleon/Wellington ones are a class above.

I'd love to see Robert Harris' series on Cicero made. (though he's only halfway through yet)

Wouldn't like to see The Wheel Of Time as they'd ruin it. I have my own image of it, I don't need them spoiling it. On the plus side they'd probably cut out the constant spanking, and a lot of the braid pulling.

Andrzej Sapkowski's The Witcher saga. Game was excellent (but not as good as books, believe me), but books didn't get so much popularity. That's because nobody published them in the Europe, which frankly, I can't understand.
It would be excellent for high-budget series, followed by a high-budget movie trilogy. The saga itself is more convincing than that of Tolkien, it's also funnier to read (I say that even though I have my deepest repect for Tolkien).

    Also, maybe Roger Zelazny's series.

Or Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card. It could be a second Blade Runner for SF.

The Horus Heresy series. Each individual book would make for a stellar film, though I would personally go with the first three books as they form a trilogy, and then I suppose the final book in which the siege of Terra has begun and Horus faces the Emperor. But then that one is yet to be released.

Another interesting movie trilogy would be Brandon Sanderson's Mistborn series.

I was surprised there isn't even an English translation. I read the Russian translation of the first novel, and quite enjoyed it.

Would make a decent film too, in the right hands.

If it counts as a book (rather than a collection of stories), Sherlock Holmes.

    Faithfully adapted I mean.

They've been trying to make Atlas Shrugged into a movie for decades. I'd be really interested in seeing that.
