    Default Upgrading General

Hello everyone. I don't have too many posts but I can't seem to get around this problem and need some help. I am playing SS 6.1, without RR or BGR, or supply trait.

I have the most advanced stables that allows me to recruit upgraded generals, and I want my existing or future generals to be upgraded to this new general type. Only problem, when I place the family members into the castle, there is no upgrade option. I even have tried to have new characters come of age in the castle, but they too do not have the new upgraded general armour.

    Any help is appreciated,

Do you mean Late Bodyguard by saying "upgraded bodyguard"?
I believe Late Bodyguard's availability is based upon the year. They use a lot more advanced armour, so I'd believe they can be recruited between 1350-1400 AD.
I'm not sure can you upgrade Early Bodyguard to Late Bodyguard, I've never thought about it. Probably not because they have their own entries in export_descr_unit.txt file. If it goes in this way, then family members have live their whole life with the same bodyguard.
But at least you can have armour upgrades to your older bodyguard units, it only requires a high-level armourer.

Thank you for the reply. And that is what I meant. The only thing is that I can recruit Late Bodyguards with my advanced stable, but still my characters that come of age are stuck with the early bodyguards, even when they come of age in the castle with the Kings stable.

That is correct. Characters who come of age will always use the early bodyguard. It never gets swapped over.

But if you recruit the Late Bodyguard, do you get a named character (i.e. a general)?

I haven't recruited one, but I'm guessing that they would. It takes I think 6-7 turns to recruit them just like Lancers.

Is the swap from Rome not taken over to MTW2? I remember an Imperial Palace would give the upgrade, and it could be asigned to other buildings as well. To bad CA did not take over many good things from Rome to Medieval.

If memory serves, the upgrade was triggered by the Marian Reforms event. When CA took out that event from M2TW, they forgot to replace it with an equivalent one to trigger the upgrade

Marian Reforms are still available in MTW2, I'm pretty sure of that. If I were at home I could trace the thread, or check descr_strat.txt

RR/RC provides late-era files you can manually copy over mid-campaign and are save-game compatible, that make any BG's Late-Era type from then on.

Look what I found in descr_strat:
    Code:
    start_date 1100 summer
    end_date 1620 winter
    timescale 1.50

    marian_reforms_disabled ;<---
    rebelling_characters_active
    gladiator_uprising_disabled
    night_battles_enabled
    show_date_as_turns
    brigand_spawn_value 40
    pirate_spawn_value 80
Seems like the marian reforms are still there...

Nothing. They are not coded it. I'm not even sure if there is a message (if it's triggered without one game will most likely crash) and I don't know either if there is still "italy" as hidden resource, which is the trigger (well, when once settlement with the resource becomes Huge)

There are lots of things that can be put in descr_strat from RTW that wont cause crashes but wont actually do anything.

But I saw other mods use the Improved Bodyguard thing for Huge Cities. How did they get that to work?
