Islamist fanatic group plans to march through Wootton Bassett...

The Islamist group, Islam4UK, are planning to march through Wootton Bassett, the small town in Wiltshire now well known for the honouring of dead British soldiers returning from Afghanistan. You may remember the group from their protests against Gert Wilders in which they held signs saying "Shariah is the solution, freedom go to hell".

The much loathed Anjem Choudary is the groups leader. Two groups that he belonged to were designated as terrorist organisations and banned. He also openly urges muslims not to co-operate with the Police in preventing terrorist acts.

What do you think of this?
Should this be allowed?

I think it's fine as long as people are allowed to oppose their views physically under these circumstances.

I was waiting for someone to post this up. I thought about it, but decided not to.

Its clearly intended to be an insult to the town, the fallen, and the families of the fallen. And Anjem Choudary's statement that he plans to write to the families of the fallen soldiers and tell them the real reasons for the deaths of our troops.....what a heinous

I'm not usually against marches being held, but in my honest opinion, if one march seriously does deserve to be denied its this one!!! At least deny them from holding it in Wootten Basset!!! Let the sickos hold it somewhere else.

The cops will find a reason to arrest them. Anything form hate speech to inciting violence, etc. If they aren't British citizens, they should be deported.

They should be banned. Plain and simple. It is not about free speech and all that. There is freedom in most western countries to act like a complete idiot (unfortunately I know people personally the remind me of that rule daily) but there is not unrestricted freedom to create a situation that will likely cause violence. Such as..I don't know..marching through Wootton Bassett.

People use these Danish cartoons as an example of incited hatred. Well if that is the case, you cannot have it both ways. There is not freedom to incite violence and hatred. Quite frankly I cannot see how this situation does not fall into that category.

Exactly. But this small group of idiots does nothing for the reputation of the Muslim community, and it only gives the BNP and the English Defence League and whatever else more material to use and more support.

It seems a very counter-productive march, designed to do nothing more then insite further mistrust between the people of Britain. I honetly can't understand what they are hoping to achieve.

I have to say that he had a similar kind of demo at Luton, to coincide with the return of troops, so this is nothing new. But yes, I agree with Azog.

There lies the dilemma. It beggars belief that the EDL demos have not been shut down given their regular breaches of public order. Because of this any arse can feel like winding up the local populace at taxpayers expense, even if there is no discernible political purpose or injustice to consider. I don't think it's the law, but the way it is applied.

I agree that they should be allowed build mosques, but Sharia Law shouldn't be introduced unless there is a majority vote, which is not going to happen in the future. If people vote for it, then it should be passed.

It's not that soldiers are buried in Wooton Basset, it's that the main RAF base where soldiers killed abroad are flown back into is nearby, and religiously for years now, regardless of time of year or weather, the people of Wooton Basset have lined the streets as the Hearses go past bearing the coffins of fallen troops. In this way they have effectively represented the entire UK in showing our respect and admiration for brave, very young men that, regardless of WHY they were fighting or WHERE they were fighting, have made the ultimate sacrifice you could ask of anybody.

It is clear this group have targetted Wooton Basset purely to try and provoke as much of a reaction as possible from people and to cause as much upset as they think they can get away with without actually breaking any laws. Should they be banned? No, not purely because of their views, that is not how the UK works and imho would be almost as much of an insult to those fallen soldiers as the march itself would be. If the local Police decide that the march poses too much of a risk of violence and disorder then perhaps it should be banned, or at least tightly controlled - but certainly not purely on the basis of the views of those marching.

That's not the approach to take if one wishes to marginalize a group. In the US we allow KKK demonstrations all the time, allow them to show everyone how stupid they are, and every time they march there is a spontaneous counter march two or three times as big.
