Default Sub-mod for Europa Barbarorum 1.1

    Hey all,

after playing EB1.1 for some time it struck me that the campaign start date (272 BC) is an especially satisfactory one for the player who chooses to be Rome. It is so satisfactory because the opposition to the rule of Rome was already quite limited by then; Pyrrhus had laid waste to the Italian countryside during his campaign there but failed to do anything else, the Etruscans had been subdued a while earlier, the Gauls didn't do major raids until the 230's BC, the Samnites had just been subdued and kept quiet, the Roman allies were (still) loyal or assimilated and the Carthaginians didn't pose any threat yet. This starting situation leaves only the Greeks from Magna Graecia and an occasional Gaul as enemies on the campaign map. My suggestion is to enhance the EB campaign by adding some sort of prologue or provincial campaign with a starting date between 509BC (first year of the Republic) and 390BC and an end date somewhere between 272BC (original start date) and 264BC (start of first Punic War) to let the player be able to experience the struggle of the city-state of Rome.

As I have no modding experience whatsoever (yet) but some knowledge of history, latin and ancient greek, I almost fully depend on offers and tips from others. I sincerely hope that any of you is like-minded and wants to engage in any form of project with me.

    Cheers!
    L.

The problem here is that the EB team is A) already completely tied up developing EB II and B) is probably not gonna want to put the amount of effort into the mod that is needed. All the units would have to be COMPLETELY redesigned; militaries were quite different back then. New factions would have to be implemented, models created, research done, etc...

In short, this is but a dream, though a worthy one. Suggestions for modifications usually are not taken, as modding teams already have a specific focus in mind.

Welcome to TWC, by the way!
