By Jaysus, boys, I have the Cuckoo!( Capturing Eagles)

Do you think you will be able to capture French Imperial Eagles in N:TW ? I remember in Rome being able to capture Eagles from the Roman First Cohorts.I always wanted the capturing of Colours and Standards to be in Empire and was let down that this feauture wasnt included.




Heres a little excert from Wiki for a bit of infomation on the Eagles.

"French Imperial Eagle refers to the figure of an eagle on a staff carried into battle as a standard by the Grande Armée of Napoleon I during the Napoleonic Wars.


The first French Eagle to be captured by the British was taken by the 87th Foot from the French 8e Ligne at the Battle of Barrosa on 5 March 1811. The first British soldier to touch the battle standard was a young officer, Ensign Edward Keogh, although as his hand grasped it, he was immediately shot through the heart and killed. He was followed by Sergeant Patrick Masterson who grabbed the eagle from the French ensign who carried it, reputedly with the cry "By Jaysus, boys, I have the Cuckoo!".

The capture of an Eagle was celebrated through the addition of the eagle as a symbol or accoutrement to a regiment's colour or uniform. The Blues and Royals (Royal Horse Guards and 1st Dragoons) (descended from the 1st Royal Dragoons) and the Royal Anglian Regiment (descended from the 44th Foot) both wear the eagle as a badge, while the cap badge of the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards (Carabiniers and Greys) (descended from the Royal Scots Greys) is an eagle.

i dont think theres any chance this will be in the game but Patrick Masterson is the man all the same.

It would make more sense to be able to capture flags.

Doubt we'll get this feature, hell we'd be lucky to even see the eagles at all

By seeing the current screenshots I do not see any change in the type of flag carried by each regiment.

Sadly this feature involves research and work on something other than "improved AI" so there is no way but we can all hope.

There was a review somewhere saying how you see the regimental flags with the glimmering golden eagles. And btw, there is a topic already like this in the Historical research area. So there is a hint from a review that there will be eagles, just nothing about capturing them. I can't remember the link to the review, it was posted here but now its long gone. if not, my mod will put it in.

I would prefer a POW system be implemented into the game before this.

The sad thing is it was possible to do this in RTW (yes you could capture roman eagle standards) but with NTW its such a half ass project I'm betting a simple feature this will not be included. Reason behind this it will not increase sells so anything that adds to the quality of the product and cost extra time to developed will be striped from the series to maximize profit. Sorry but the total war series is being striped of innovative features and their trying to push these empty bags of a product.

Well they did it in Rome so why not in Napoleon. They might surprise us cause it's their last chance with me (many other fans I hope to).

Cause if TW goes any more casual I'd rather have them go the way of 3Drealms rather than go down the slope. My heart used to pound faster to the music, my eyes would be revelling in the beauty of my orchestration of combat and I would just sit back and go "Jaysus boys, I got an Umpire".

I want TW to be about forging your Empire leaving an Imprint of your Athlete's foot on the face of altered History. I'd rather have them begging in the gutter than making casual games that are about moving little toy soldiers around making them fight that even YOUR MUM could play.

I would like to see the POW system bought back as well.The annoying thing is that both the capturing of Eagles and POWs were both present in previous titles.It added that little something extra.I enjoy playing Empire but it doesnt have the depth it really needs.Small things like cpaturing Standards/Eagles/POWs would help out a lot.My biggest wish would be for the regimental flags to picked up from the floor by another member of the unit when their bearer is killed.Colours,flags and Eagles were held in great honour there was no way a unit would leave its Colours laying on the floor of the battlefield.It would add a cool feature to both Empire and Napoleon games.Of course we all want better AI,diplomacy etc etc but the battles in Empire dont seem to be all they could be.I find them a bit sterile to be honest.Which is a shame as the time period offers so much more that has been left out.
