When the human race makes its next genetic mutation…

    or if we make it...

How do you react if it we mutated in to a more advanced version of humans, would we become subservient? Would we isolate the newcomers even if they are more advanced [e.g. give them and island somewhere], and would that be ‘racist’. if they we less advanced do we use them as workers, do we stop them from breeding with us ~ if they were more or les advanced than us.

whats the politics and ethic etc in such scenarios.

Evolution happens at a very slow rate most of the time, and many changes are so small that someone 1000 years from now will see that we are clearly different, but not someone in the near future.

What I want to say is, when a major change happens, it will have been preceded by many smaller changes, which will make it not seem all that strange or actually make it unnoticible.

You know what, yesterday I was about to create the exact same OP, deam you beat me to it.

More effective to meet the future:
    -The brain most likly.
-Maybe fingers, or other specialised human tools.
-The slimmer people (in developed countrys) will be idolize more, then when "fat" people were seen as enduring in past food crisis.

Just at the top of my head
Thorolf was thus armed. Then Thorolf became so furious that he cast his shield on his back, and, grasping his halberd with both hands, bounded forward dealing cut and thrust on either side. Men sprang away from him both ways, but he slew many. Thus he cleared the way forward to earl Hring's standard, and then nothing could stop him. He slew the man who bore the earl's standard, and cut down the standard-pole. After that he lunged with his halberd at the earl's breast, driving it right through mail and body, so that it came out at the shoulders; and he lifted him up on the halberd over his head, and planted the butt-end in the ground. There on the weapon the earl breathed out his life in sight of all, both friends and foes. [...] 53, Egil's Saga
I must tell you here of some amusing tricks the Comte d'Eu played on us. I had made a sort of house for myself in which my knights and I used to eat, sitting so as to get the light from the door, which, as it happened, faced the Comte d'Eu's quarters. The count, who was a very ingenious fellow, had rigged up a miniature ballistic machine with which he could throw stones into my tent. He would watch us as we were having our meal, adjust his machine to suit the length of our table, and then let fly at us, breaking our pots and glasses.

Um... the human race makes it's next genetic mutation every time a child is born. It's not like there is a global change every few hundred years that every person goes through.

We are defonately evolving i think. Humans are on average alot taller than we used to be in the medieval period.

Id love to have a brain like a dolphin. One half sleeps while the other half works. Never needing sleep is awesome. Humans waste so much of there life sleeping.

Um. Genetic mutations occur very frequently.

Humans are now taller due to the fact we now have much lower rates of malnutrition in children.

Animal protein, mainly. Hunter-gatherers always tended to average about as tall as modern folks too, on account of eating a fair lot of critters. (Shifting to agriculture was quite universally accompanied by a notable drop in average height.)

It's not like humans weren't developing all kinds of mutations all the time; the damn things are just so prosaic and trivial as to be effectively irrelevant (except in the very long term), and those that aren't tend to be quite unhealthy...

In fact there are genetic mutations occurring at this very moment like, for example, the disappearance of one of our teeth.

That's not an example of a mutation "occuring". That's an example of a mutation being carried by some individuals and not by others.

No, its just more advanced in some than others: Some already lost one teeth, but the size of the spacemen between teeth is becoming shorter in each generation for most of those who don't, meaning it will happen in a generation or two.

lol, "advanced"? What the are you talking about? I presume you are talking about wisdom teeth. I suspect you don't understand evolution.

i do not beleve, that we are selecting away people with more teeth form our gen pool, i or one, do not count the teeth of the girls i want to date, do you? then how is this trait an advantege over having more theet, i could think that the cost of removing those is is a handicap, but a few hundreth dollars is not going to afect reproductive chance, least of all in the west were people have few children.

there are however certain traits that are becoming more comon, for example blue eyes have pased in 6000 years form non existent to 20% of worlds population

There was an original modern human in African labelled as the ‘eve’ of modern humans, evolution can happen in increments. Some insects change within the life cycle of a tree they inhabit.

Ha, why didn’t you do it yesterday ~ were you going to make a more complex argument?

    -The brain most likely.
Yea, if we made the change I suppose we would have in built internet and mobile phones. Not sure what nature can do to improve us though.

I don't really see what the Mitochondrial Eve has to do with this.

    And by this you mean...?

Humans are not those insects, however. Also life-cycle on quite different order of magnitude.

It is genetically mutating constantly like anything else, though most mutations tend to result in a mental or physical handicap or hereditary illness. Though that may well stop once we have the ability to genetically modify ourselves.

I would just the mutants and norms do their thing seeing as they're doing anyone any particular harm in this case. To do anything else is eugenics and you see how that line of thinking can take a society.

I was born without my top wisdom teeth.

Ferrets, are they going to put me on that island? Don't let them take me!
