    Default Strengthened Troll-men

    Hey guys, this is a really simple mini-mod for Third Age 1.4 that basically just boosts the Troll-men in terms of stats (and cost). It's easy enough to do (as such I'm not really sure how helpful this will be to everyone), but I figured it couldn't hurt to upload it for those who don't feel like doing the work or don't know how. Also note that I tried to keep the Troll-men "MEN" and not Half-trolls in the truest sense, so they're probably not going to demolish entire armies on their own, but they are much improved from their previous form, so they are now quite a powerful assault unit.

    Anyway, here's the download link. It's a modified export_descr_unit file, and I'm sure you guys know the drill regarding these (stick it in your Third Age data folder and overwrite the old one, backing up the old file if you like).

    Some people might want to know what stats you gave them.
    You're right. I should have posted that up to begin with.

    Cost: 600 Florins
    Class: Heavy Infantry
    Attack: 15
    Defence: 12
    Charge: 10
    Hit Points: 2

    I added an extra two defence to their shield because, even though it looks like it's made of wicker, it's quite tall and could reasonably provide good protection if it's not pierced.

    Personally, I think 2hp is in order, as they have little to no armour but are beastly and huge. I remember the look of horror as I was testing them and half of them died in 10 secs fighting against orc raiders!!

    IMHO prototype of Troll-man is Zulu warrior (Tolkien was from South Africa) so Troll-man isn't something extraordinary.

    IMHO prototype of Troll-man is Zulu warrior (Tolkien was from South Africa) so Troll-man isn't something extraordinary.
    I would agree with you except that one would think that if they were just regular-sized Tolkien would just have compared them with Orcs. The fact that they were likened to trolls suggest, to me, that they were in fact something more frightening and formidable than the norm.

    If I may recommend, try the troll men in LOTR TW for RTW, those guys were quite a horror if they managed to get to your lines. Armed with HUGE scythes they were able to massacre one or two units of lower tier gondor infantry with minimal loses, of course against professionals they lost, but still managed to do a lot of harm. Besides the mumakil they were harads second best unit and always made me to concentrate archers onn them. Not even mentioning they were fast almost as cavalry when charging.. So maybe PB could take some inspiration for RR/RC even there..

    I'd say you've got it. Not sure if those shields are worth 5 def (despite the size) but I guess having less than 10 def would be too low and I'd rather have armour and def skill stay the way they are. You should use those values as far as I'm concerned.

    Heat 0 means they don't gain extra fatigue in hot climates, right? Which is as it should be. However they should have penalties in snow/cold.

    At the top it says "Half-men" shouldn't that be "Half-trolls" or "Troll-Men"?

    Noted. I just forgot (or never even knew) which of the stats represents cold fatigue.

    Nice stats, maybe it wouldn“t hurt to increase their attack, being smashed by a halfTROLL should really hurt ( I mean more than for 9, that doesn“t represent the brutal force) Anyway it“s just my opinion.. Thanks for great modification of TATW PB! ( + rep)

    Yes its now 11, I forgot to add the +2 attack for superior quality unit.

    To be honest: I think 15 attack is way to much. Even the Dwarven Dragonslayers only have 8 attack! Both units have the ap trait, all ap units in TATW have lower attack then others because ap is very effective.
    9 attack should be enough, imo.
