Several questions/Errors (steam version)
I just today got the steam version of M2:TW and already after the installation I have three problems. (Possibly tied to one another though) But before I explain
Specs:
Windows Vista 32-bit
nvidia 7900 512mb Vram
2.5 gb Ram
117 Gb HDD + 500Gb external drive
AMD Athlon 64 dual 3800+ ~2ghz
3794mb Page file
If you need any additional info about my specs please ask.
Problem #1:Right at the launch/news window
Connection Error
It was not possible to connect to the update server. Please check that you have an
active internet connection and that your proxy settings are configured correctly. Click
on the settings button to configure them.
So I do that and another error pops up.(Also when I enter a valid proxy server the game does not launch
but the song will keep playing until the end.
Problem #2: Right when the settings button is clicked
Unhandled exception has occurred in your application. If you click
continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue.
If you click Quit, the application will close immediately.
Index was outside of bound array.
Problem #3:If I ignore the last two error and hit play this error message is displayed.
CA_LIBS
Medieval II suffered a fatal error and will now exit.
I also uninstalled and reinstalled and the same errors. I also tried deleting/modifying the CFG file
that some other people have suggested but no luck still.
If only Steam would allow refunds for broken downloads.

Re: Several questions/Errors (steam version)
I found out that steam gives you a corrupt CFG file. Could someone email me their preferences cfg file?

Re: Several questions/Errors (steam version)
Connection errors are between you and Steam. Change servers. I had to once.
CA_LIBS are corrupted files. Reinstall the game.
medieval2.preferences.cfg is generated when you start a campaign, not before. This one not Steam's fault.

I have reinstalled the game before. Should I change Steam or proxy server?

Re: Several questions/Errors (steam version)
I don't deal with Steam except when my wife bought me Empire. Because of the servers 100 miles down the road being full, I ended up with a server 2,000 miles away. So much for default servers.
If you have auoupdaters going during the download, it will mess it up. So will IM, IRCs, anything your are doing including playing another game will mess it up.
If you want a chance at this game, disbale about everything that shares the connection but Windows with autoupdate disabled, firewall with autoupdate disabled, and the download, and go watch tv until it's done.
