Default RTW Mac version release update

I know most here are PC gamers but for those of you waiting for this game on the Mac, here is an update on the release. A representative named Ian from Feral posted the following on a Mac forum website today.

    Hi Forum-goers,

I just wanted to give you an update on where we are with Rome. We’re very sorry that we didn't get it out before Christmas – we are now simply waiting on approval from the licensor (in this case, the original publisher). Once we have that, it will be going straight into manufacturing.

Once again, apologies for the delays, but we're nearly there! We really appreciate the patience you guys have shown. Edwin and I will be posting updates in this thread when we have them, but we've also just started our Twitter account at www.twitter.com/feralgames, so that's another place where we can keep you informed.

Looks like Activision is really giving them a hard time there...

Interesting. I've heard of Feral Interactive's plan to get RTW and BI converted for Mac, but I'd never seen much progress made on the actual website so I was beginning to wonder whether it was a dead project. But this update gives some hope

Feral originally had a release date of June '09, then October, then they said Christmas and it's been a really tough road for them in getting this game out. They haven't done a good job of keeping people posted on their website but have been posting on some of the Mac forum sites.

I understand there are unforeseen issues one may run into when converting a game to a different platform and the delays have really PO'd a lot of people but I'd rather them work the bugs out and provide a solid gaming performance then rush it out the door with issues.

Fair enough. Well I look forward to them getting it out. I've been wanting to play RTW on my Mac for a long while, and though I guess mods won't work on them, at least having the vanilla is better than having nothing at all.

    Also from Ian at Feral:
There's a checkbox to unlock all factions in the pre-game options panel. No code-fiddling required!

I wonder if anything else has changed.

Well, a friend's been bugging me about whether RTW runs on a Mac, so now I know what to say.

Thing is, if you have a mac purchased in the last year or so it should have boot camp on it. I've been running RTW on the Windows XP side of my Mac for over a year now without any problems. Only down side is I have to have two versions of Photoshop so i can mod on the PC and my other work on the Mac.

But, I'm glad TW is finally coming around to be offered to Mac users.

I used to do that as well. But once my Bootcamp crashed, I couldn't be bothered setting up again. It'll be much easier to have it just on Mac.

I just received this via email:

Thank you for your pre-order of Rome: Total War Gold Edition (Order reference #x,xxx, placed on 10/02/2009). I would be grateful if you would please spare a moment to reply and let me know whether you intend to play the game on a Mac with a PowerPC or an Intel processor.

The Intel-only version of Rome: Total War Gold Edition is now shipping. However, the PPC version will be another few weeks.

If you have an Intel Mac we will send your order immediately, however if you have a PPC Mac we will wait until the Universal version of the game is in stock before sending your order.

Thank you for your help; it is much appreciated.

I look forward to hearing from you.

    Best Regards,

    Sylvie Alusse

Thankfully I'll be playing this on an Intel Mac so I'm grateful for that.

Well, some people only have Mac's so either Bootcamp or this would be the only options to play this fine game regardless of when it came out. I have been strictly Mac for 18 years although I recently purchased a gaming PC as I like this series so much. I wanted to be able to play Medieval, Empire, Napoleon, etc.

Even though I have the PC now, I still maintained my RTW order as I would love to be able to play it on my Mac laptop at work on my lunch break, etc. so I'm looking forward to it.

6,000 posts is impressive! I think it may take me a bunch of years to reach that level.

I did receive my Mac version and loaded it onto my MacBook with no issues. I haven't had a chance to adequately test but everything looked good and seemed to be working well. I'll report back here when I've had a chance to test it more thoroughly.
