Default Limited Edition vs Imperial Edition

I just pre-ordered the Limited edition for 39.99$ instead of the 49.99$ Imperial Edition on Steam.
I checked out the pre order limited edition on gamestop.com and found out it comes with more elite units than the Imperial Edition. So for 10 dollars less I get 4 extra elite units plus a disk copy to install instead of 2 day download of 15 GB like I had to do for ETW.
39.99$ is less than what I paid for the normal edition of ETW that was 49.99$ on steam (US Dollars).

    Elite Unit packages compare:
Both Limited and Imperial editions have:
7th Lancers – France: Cavalry unit
Brandenburg Uhlans – Prussia: Cavalry unit
1st Hussars – Austria: Cavalry unit
15th Hussars – Great Britain: Cavalry unit
1st East Prussian Grenadier Battalion – Prussia: Grenadier unit
6th Regiment d’Infanterie Légère – France: Line infantry unit
17th Jäger Regiment – Russia: Line infantry unit
1st Regiment Emperor's Own – Austria: Line infantry unit
◦18th Regiment d’Infanterie de Ligne “The Brave” – France: Line infantry unit
◦Moscow Musketeers – Russia: Line infantry unit

    Limited edition exclusive units:
5e Regiment de Hussards – France: Line infantry unit
Pavlograd Hussars – Russia: Cavalry unit
8th Life Regiment – Prussia: Line infantry unit
47th (Czech) Regiment – Austria: Line infantry unit
88th Foot "Connaught Rangers" – Great Britain: Line infantry unit

Steam version exclusive that comes with both the imperial and standard steam edition:
    Royal Scot Greys dragoon unit.

Basicly it comes down to the Royal Scot Greys vs the 5 limited edition units.
Its less money you get the extra 4 units vs the extra 1 unit on the steam version.
They should have added more exclusive units to the steam version instead of 1 to offset the cost of paying 10$ more than the limited edition.

The Imperial Edition comes with the Elite Units (Which are the same as the Limited Edition "exclusive" units) which are:

5e Regiment de Hussards – France: Line infantry unit
Pavlograd Hussars – Russia: Cavalry unit
8th Life Regiment – Prussia: Line infantry unit
47th (Czech) Regiment – Austria: Line infantry unit
88th Foot "Connaught Rangers" – Great Britain: Line infantry unit

and the Heros of the Napoleonic Wars:

7th Lancers – France: Cavalry unit
Brandenburg Uhlans – Prussia: Cavalry unit
1st Hussars – Austria: Cavalry unit
15th Hussars – Great Britain: Cavalry unit
1st East Prussian Grenadier Battalion – Prussia: Grenadier unit

◦18th Regiment d’Infanterie de Ligne “The Brave” – France: Line infantry unit
◦Moscow Musketeers – Russia: Line infantry unit

So as you can see, there is no difference with the editions, except in the Imperial Edition comes with a couple of posters, etc...

Go to the Total War site and check for yourself what the Imperial Edition has, they are just the same.

I went to there site and they dont show the elite regiment units for steam version.
    http://www.totalwar.com/napoleon/gameinfo/pre_order.php
They say "unique units per retailer" meaning steams offer is for the Royal Scot Greys and heros of napoleon elite pack instead of the elite regiment + heros of napoleon. The steam store page for the imperial edition makes no mention of the elite regiment 5 units.
They show the elite regiment unit pack under the limited edition but the not the 2 different steam editions.

There is a price difference of 10 dollars between the limited edition and steam imperial edition.
Gamestop and amazon has limited edition pre-order for 39.99(US) and Steam has the imperial edition for 49.99(US) so there is a difference between the two, the elite regiment units and steam version getting the royal scot greys. They both get the heros of napoleon units but the other elite units are different and the prices are different.

This is the first time I've seen steam charge more to USA customers for a slightly lesser product.
Amazon and Gamestop are selling limited the edition for the price of the standard steam edition and comes with more units than the Imperial steam edition.

I thought I'd start a thread on this so people look around at the different unit packages and prices before they pre-order.
I almost pre-ordered from steam until I saw gamespots deal for the game, only because I had a gift card for gamestop.

Yeah, looking at the packages it's pretty clear that they are trying to steer customers buying the CD instead of Steam version.

Prices are about the same but if you buy CD:s you get the Elite Regiment package, containing 5 extra units.

Yea, this whole Imperial Edition, Limited Edition and Cereal Cornflake Edition crap is so see-thru attempt to rip people off you really have to be blind or in denial to fall for it. Even a true fan wouldn`t fall for it. There`s a difference to being a fan and being gullible.

I mean what`s the big deal? it`s going to be more men doing the same thing but in different colour uniforms. Do we need several different versions of it? especially in the not at all realistic Ca version of 18th century warfare? Is the game even actually fixed so it actually plays better than Empires?

And guess what? In 4 months they`ll release everything together at half price.

It is a bit of a rip off, overpriced by about £5-6, but still, quite a few extra decent units, in a period I enjoy. Whats £6 for 4 months extra involving gaming, it's nothing, it wouldn't even buy me 2 good beers in an English high taxation rip off pub. So which is better value for money is the way I look at it, and the fact that I have the Imperial edition on pre-order tells you which route I'm taking.

I could get two good pints for that in a decent English non rip-off pub! Even a 6 pack down at the local supermarket! And I don`t have to wait 4 months for it either.

For Americans, Limited Edition = Imperial Edition minus the poster.

I'm fairly certain the notion that the Steam Imperial Edition contains only 1 unit pack is a result of ambiguously bad wording on Steam/CA's part--it really should have 2, otherwise the digital and European box versions would not be the same edition!

Thus, there's no reason for Americans to get Steam Imperial Edition unless you want the Royal Scots Grey unit and a copy of M2TW for an extra $10.
Let me persuade you with my powerful logic skills.
