    Default Pikemen Animation

i have noticed that animations like slow_pike etc (vanilla pikemen animations, called "spearwall" here) are working as fine in this mod as in others, meaning: not at all. formation breaks up, pikemen become weak swordsmen etc, you know the drill.

now theres a simple solution: just give the warhammer_helbard animation to all units using vanilla pike animations (Alcantani, Republican guard etc) and voila! you have a fine wall of spears. even chaos units will have trouble.

But if we will do that...using just few or one animations for units ...we will destroy the variety and originality from this mod.

    Just a humble opinion...

How will improving something by taking away something that was defective and replacing it with something that works "destroy orginality"?

Yes, if they work like vanilla pikeman they are useless crap at the moment- Haven`t had a chance to test pikeman yet.

Yes, but without this pikeman units are useless crap.
They are cheap but not useless.

They are still able to kill infantry and cavalry, and don't deserve to be more good than their valor represented in money.

If we want to improve,we can do that, without destroying variety and originality.

So one unit of lousy, cheap and weak skeleton warriors should be able to rip a unit of battle hardened and more expensive pikeman mercenaries apart?

increase the unit 'force' factor from between 1.0 to 2.0 and pikemen as they are will do their job...

Well the spacing is one problem as sorrow mentioned. Tis all about keeping second rank intact. This doesnt mean that units wont switch to swords but they are much more resistance to switching to swords.

The other and one is that pikemen attack is much less than MTW vanilla or even Kingdoms attack for pikes. Pikes attack value is what makes them a steam roller if you want to call them that. Swiss pikemen mercs in Kingdoms have 13 attack, Republican guard pike (elite armored pikemen) only has like 7? (not sure on that number but close).

If you are awfully disgusted with pike performance you could always try this.

Hmm I kinda noticed pikes arent too stellar. Maybe I did something wrong for some reason but I was getting butchered by cavalry even though my army was all spears and pikes (they only have heavy cavalry and some halberds)

    Man...
Try to make an calculation for cost of your army and cost for enemy army.

Also try to think at situation, when you spend 50.000 gold for the finest cavalry in the world, and than, you find some fancy pants with total cost at 5.000 ... and you, with all tactics from the world, have no chance for defeating them

    Is that ok ?

Yes, it is. Warfare was always (at least partly) about countering enemys best units with something of your own. Look at Crecy, Agincourt, Varna - foolish French super-heavy knights- the pinnacles of chivalry butchered by longbowmen-some bloody lowlifes and peasants with nothing but bow and jannissaries- Christian slaves. What I want to say that resolve, determination and ingenuity matters in warfare not just price of your equipment.

We talk about game engine limitations and balance of the game, not heroic battle from real world.

After all...we can have heroic battle in this game.

    But balance must stay.

Exactly. With the right tactics, the weakest pikes should defeat the strongest cavalry, though, with the wrong tactics, the strongest pikes could be defeated by the weakest cavalry. This the good thing about this game. It is not like Age of Empires where all that matters is the stats and what type of unit you have, it was basically rock, paper, scissors set in different historical periods. In TW, you have to think about where the enemy can flank you, whether your infantry are holding the line, whether your archers have a clear shot etc and is more true to real life.

Mr. Sorrow may I ask you where this mod you're talking about (from Valiant Champion?) can be found? I'd really like to fix the problem, my Lothern Seaguard keeps breaking formation or, even worse, turning to show it's back to the enemy while fighting... :S

    Thanks
