Default Do we need to fresh install RTW?

When RSII is released will we have to fresh install RTW, patch it to 1.5 and then put RSII on top of that? Or will we have to put it on top of the 1.6 RS patch?

The best way to install RTW mods is to keep a clean unmodded version of RTW patched to 1.5 (and RTW BI patched to 1.6 if you have BI). Simply copy the whole 'Rome - Total War' folder to a new folder at the same level and apply a mod to that.

If anything happens to your copy (I keep each mod in it's own folder) then it's just a matter of taking another clean copy and apply the mod again.

Except that I did this...4 times...following a strict set of step-by-step guidelines available on this very site and Roma Surrectum failed to install over the copied folders. It would only work for me on the "true" version of the game. On the 5th try, I managed to get RS to install over the copied folder. When I attempted to play the original game, however, it opened RS instead.

Rinse. Wash. Repeat. This was the biggest computing headache I endured in a long time, and it's the only game/mod I've had these problems with.

I strongly dislike having to uninstall and reinstall for the fabled RS2 that was guaranteed to be released at the end of 2008; then guaranteed to be no later than summer 2009; then guaranteed by Christmas 2009; and now guaranteed to be sometime in 2010. Because 1 bug is unacceptable, and all of the original skins have to be redone due to the disparity in programming and art which has developed since then.

And no, my complaints don't mean that I have to either become a part of the contributing Mod team or shut up. I am a player who enjoys playing.

I am sorry. I truly love this mod. Hence the frustrations with the above issues.

I don't think anyone else has experienced the same problems as you have. Clearly at some stage you've installed RS to the wrong folder as otherwise there is no way that the original folder would result in a RS install.......

RSII has always been a "it's done when it's done", although I have seen Xmas 2009 as a possible release date at one stage. I think there are many in the development team that would like it to have been released already.

The improvements to the beta in the last twelve months have been a revelation. The mod really is a lot closer to being released now - the skinnig etc are almost complete. There is still a fair way to go before it really is ready as there is quite a bit of text that needs to be written. There have been numerous requests for people to help out with the text work, proof-reading and beta testing. What have YOU done to speed up the introduction to RSII.

Don't forget the developers and testers are all contributing their own time to this mod.

I don't know what you mean by that. Care to explain?

    @DoogansQuest

have you ever thought about renaming your folders?

I for myself have: Rome - Total War_ori - this is the original untouched vanilla version of my RTW
Rome - Total War_RS - this is my Roma Surrectum folder
there are a few more but not worth to mention since all have the same name standard - R-TW_modname

Now everytime i want play a mod i rename the vanilla folder into the name you see 3 lines above and the modfolder
    into: Rome - Total War

Same off course when installing a mod - i will prepare a fresh folder with original name and rename my real vanilla folder
into the Rome - Total War_ori

I never had to uninstall/reinstall RTW to make a mod working yet.
