    Default Unit size issue

Hey guys, long time reader and player, first time poster.

Anyway, I've been playing SS 6.1 for a while now and decided to play and test out TATW. I didn't enjoy it as much as SS for reasons unrelated to this topic, but it seems to have caused an issue. Now whenever I play SS my unit sizes have increased dramatically. For example, a 60(?) man spear unit is now a 150 man spear unit.

    Solution?

    Thanks.

Given everything was uninstalled correctly, I would check your game settings...i think its unit scale not sure though but that may be the answer.

So then I would have to uninstall TATW to get SS working properly?

The solution is : Go on Options on the initial screen, Game Settings, then there is a bar that says "unit size"
adjust it to normal, and it should go back to the numbers you like.
Dont forget to click the "Apply Changes" button on the same screen, or it wont take effect

    Thanks, I'll try that.

But what do you think initially caused it to do that? I want to be sure I've gotten rid of the problem entirely before some other thing pops up half-way into a campaign.

Yeah I don't like that your path is kinda pre-determined. I really like this game because of the way you write your own version of history and pick and choose(mostly) your friends and enemies. I mean, you can do the same thing in TATW but not allying with the humans/elves/dwarves and attacking orcs just feels weird. But other than that, it's a great mod, just not for me.

    Thanks for the advice everyone.

Because huge units tend to cause pathfinding issues, problems with placing units on walls, and so on.
Or because his computer might not support such large numbers.
Or because he doesn't feel that bigger units = more fun. I'd agree with him on that one, personally.

1rst with the issue if u change the unit scale from even vanilla kingdoms it would change for all mods, and for TATW i am sorry u need to know what lotr is.Its third age in lotr not the age of dinausors.

Oh, calm down; you feel like if you were responsable for the TATW mod.
The other guy is free of its opinions and maybe knows what is lotr; and i don't see the point with the dinosaurs BTW...

So both of you are right, TATW is quite empty but yes, 3rd age middle-earth was empty with lots of no-man's lands.
The point that other people were trying to make is that if you compare the two mods, europe (e.g.) is much more populated and politically complex than middle-earth. That's a fact.

As for unit size, i always plays with massive units.

May Kong bless you, both of you.

Another issue I've come across, and this may be purely psychological, is that ever since playing TATW and going back to SS I feel like my spies and assassins are almost useless. An assassin only has a 30% chance to kill an unnamed commander whereas it used to always be around 90%. This is just one example, it's the same for spying and sabotaging. For instance, a rebel town with only 2 garrisoned units only gave me a 38% chance of success with my spies.

Assasins are useless either way,and if u move ur spyes right next to the city its enough, and the 1 mod has nothing to do with the other,iu may have noticed that there r 2 seperate files right? So its just the enemy has better traits or something, but has nothing to do with TATW.

In mtw1 it was thought the battles became more challenging with smaller unit sizes (gave the AI a fairer chance). It was thought that 'medium' size units provided the optimum challenge level. Medium size units aren't for me personally, but I no longer play 'huge' unit sizes in any total war game.

i play with units size of 400-500 on ETW, where the larger a unit the harder it is to destroy before they can flee

In the mtw games, I think smaller unit sizes had something to do with the fact that it made it more difficult to form defensive 'semi circles' (with the rear protected by the edge of the map). of course in real medieval battles it was not possible to form such defensive semi circles where the enemy would not be able to encircle you just because it was the edge of the gameboard.

To the question at hand, it's the .cfg file for the TATW, it's stats are "balanced" for Huge settings, and hence their mod automatically triggers the loading with huge settings. To change this, open up the TATW .cfg file in a basic text editor, and search for "huge", and put a semi colon (";") in front of that line. When you load up TATW (and any other mod from there on unless they change the unit size in their own), it will load the previous loaded settings. To change it in game, just go to Options>Game Settings.

I know this is answered, but you asked why are 60 men units now units of 150 men. This is, as said, caused by your game settings. You have "huge unit scale" turned on.

[Huge unit scale: unit base sizes are multiplied by 2.5
Large unit scale: unit base sizes are multiplied by 2.0
Normal unit scale: unit base sizes are multiplied by 1.5
Small unit scale: unit base sizes are multiplied by 1.0]

So, huge unit scale multiplies the units' base sizes by 2.5, and that base size in your case is 60.

    -> 60 men x 2.5 = 150 men

    I hope you understood.

    @Balbor:
i would like to know why spearmen are not 240man units
Wait few hours as I'll release my unit mod for SS. It has spearmen units of, not 240 but 200-220 men.

TATW automatically changes unit sizes to HUGE, so they can generate 250 Orcs per unit. I personally don't have a problem with playing on HUGE on Stainless Steel - 160 men of the Constable of Jerusalem

I'm pretty sure your unit sizes are very unbalanced...
