    Default How is your neighborhood?

In my past campaigns, I had to slug it out with any faction which were unfortunate to became my neighbor. It limited and practically made land and sea trade impossible. Diplomacy was futile, and had no effect of my diplomatic table. The thing is that this was allways the Total War way of playing DLV.

BUT NOW, I just figuered it all out, how to have some sort of control and as a result: A safe border. All without being military "paranoid". Trade, and all that "glamour" now flows. Check this one: http://rapidshare.com/files/32764510...ksave.zip.html Add it in
    Code:
    ...\SEGA\Medieval II Total War\mods\DLV_ext\saves
    Turn 100+
Relationship script: 'Neutral relationship' script , tho I belive it's possible with the normal DLV relationships
    Faction: France
Enemys: England, Ireand, and all the muslim factions from a Parisian Jihad by egypt (probably a retaliation from massivly funding Jerusalem, leaving them as a small vassal to Jerusalem).
Allys: Flamish, Denmark, Scotland, Poland, Hungary, Milan, Papal States, Spain, Portugal, Teutonic, Jerusalem.
    Regions controlled: 8
    Reputation: Dubious
Reliable in the first 50 - 60 turns. Mixed the rest when I activly waged crusade against egypt. It would have stayed on 'Mixed' if I did not ally and fund the Scotish wars in Engand and west Norway in the later times tho. Scotland, a generally hated faction in my campaign. Besides from the one crsaude in the levant, I don't activly wage war against factions and a few german out bursts. -- however I move the chess pieces around and fund factions I want to succeed with 20 000 to 60 000.
    Income: 20 000 (+/-) ą turn.
I generally make alot of cash, and I put most of it in the bank, or give away the surplus to my allys. This is to make sure I keep the inflation low.
This is what DLV Civic is all about.

Thorolf was thus armed. Then Thorolf became so furious that he cast his shield on his back, and, grasping his halberd with both hands, bounded forward dealing cut and thrust on either side. Men sprang away from him both ways, but he slew many. Thus he cleared the way forward to earl Hring's standard, and then nothing could stop him. He slew the man who bore the earl's standard, and cut down the standard-pole. After that he lunged with his halberd at the earl's breast, driving it right through mail and body, so that it came out at the shoulders; and he lifted him up on the halberd over his head, and planted the butt-end in the ground. There on the weapon the earl breathed out his life in sight of all, both friends and foes. [...] 53, Egil's Saga
I must tell you here of some amusing tricks the Comte d'Eu played on us. I had made a sort of house for myself in which my knights and I used to eat, sitting so as to get the light from the door, which, as it happened, faced the Comte d'Eu's quarters. The count, who was a very ingenious fellow, had rigged up a miniature ballistic machine with which he could throw stones into my tent. He would watch us as we were having our meal, adjust his machine to suit the length of our table, and then let fly at us, breaking our pots and glasses.

The Danes, I swear, with their half arsed attempts at a 'war'. You gotta give it to 'em, they just dont stop trying. Listen, I've fought the Timurids, ever heard of them? Elephants with cannons on their backs. Yea, Timurids. You guys are like kids on tricycles compared to them. -REZ

    Arrr ye that worked.
Nice kingdom, nice $$$. Hope I can get there with Hungary some time, now I'm in the middle of the dark ages and at war with everyone.

Have you got to the DA yet or have you disabled it? If disabled how did you do it?

I have not disabed it. I'm not going to do so either. I'm personaly to stubbern to move from my Civic way of ruling the continent at the moment to move to a Total War way of ruling my sovreign. When the time comes, when the Dark Age comes -- I will stand my ground, and my might will crush the pitty enemy who dares. Not in the fields, but at my gates. The gates of fire. This will maintain my sturdy reputation and the ave of darkness will pass like the others.

Yo Shadrach, disabling the DA is a blasphemy Especially when playing small nation turtle style games, otherwise pretty much nothing would ever happen...

If anything it needs to be made harder, the DA and plagues ideally should not be predictable.

And it would be great if there were more lesser events where only one city plagues and one neighbour attacks, or something like that.

Basically running a small nation is fun until you learn how and then it is just barely above boring. Something needs to happen, or at least we need to know that something will happen, that makes the game interesting again.

What it amounts to is a steep learning curve, not only do we have to master empire management but also plague and conflict resolution... if we do not have one in order when it comes to the other then ... the fear sets in

I actually commented out the DA in my files but since I'd already started my campaign it didn't seem to work - I still got hit full force with it anyway...

I kind of agree Taiji, but like Ombudsmannen here I like slowly building up an empire, having alliances with most and using any opportunity to expand slowly without insulting my allies. For instance the HRE always gets itself in a mess with the Pope, so I call a crusade on them and take a few regions in the process etc

So when the DA hits and all alliances that I've worked hard to maintain is invalid, its really painful, but I guess they return to normal once the DA ends though. OH WHEN WILL IT END OH WHEN!

If you are not afraid to be a blasphemer, like myself , use my mini-patch (or part of it), the DA "total war" thing is removed (the plague still hit you). You can make your events (e.g. you decide to conquer this country; well this is an event, right ?) the campaign won't necessarily be boring.

The aim of a game is to have fun, and the definition of fun is not identical from one people to the other.

Cool, I'm glad it hit you anyway

Perhaps we could do with a simcity campaign where you never get attacked... ( Joking... 'medieval total peace')

How you decide you want to play is up to you of course, that flexibility is one of the cool things about DLV. Because I'm interested in improving it, I feel I have to get to know it, so probably I'm just projecting

I ran a Stainless Steel campaign a year back , where I decided never to use any violence , to bribe armies and to buy regions. I think I bought around 35 regions , but after that I never touched that particular campaign again , as the lack of violence made it one of the most boring campaigns ever.

Well, that is one (wrong) way of looking at it Currently, I fueld all the nations I want war in. It's cool to manipulate factions back and forth. Very soon, I will move to Americas. Change the name of citys (new york, ...), move the pope to washington DC/new york (geography?), fund despots in the middle east, etc. MWHAHAHAHAHHA
