Unspecified error

Ok, so Kingdoms used to work like a charm, no CTDs. I played with mods and it worked as well.
Then I deinstalled it a while ago. (year ago)
I decided to play again last week so I installed it and it worked fine. No CTDs.
I wanted to play a different mod so I deinstalled everything, and installed everything again.

This is where my problem starts. I always get unspecified errors. Whether its kingdoms, M2TW, or mods, it always CTDs during the first loading screen but each one is a little different.
The weird thing is that I installed Windows 7 yesterday (from vista) and did a clean install.
The problem I had on my last install on vista is happening in windows 7.

I have windows 7, a quad core 3 ghz amd processor, and a 4870 ati graphics card, and plenty of ram.
My drivers are all updated as well.

I installed M2TW, then when I installed kingdoms it patch M2TW up to 1.3, then after installing kingdoms I installed the 1.5 patch.

Yes.
I could not play M2TW or four kingdoms campaigns before installing DLV.
I actually copy and pasted the M2TW game folder after installing the final 1.5 patch, because I like to have 1 clean copy for when I want a new mod. And doing that does not affect the game, I did that as well when my game worked.

Could you play Medieval2 or any of the four Knigdoms campaigns before before installing DLV?

try this:

1 - reinstall

2- see if it works

3- install patch 1.2

4- see if it works

5- patch 1.3

6- see if it works

7- kingdoms

8- see if it works

9- patch 1.5

10- see if it works

and don't add new mods or do that copy-paste thing

this will see if the problem is in the 1st installation (med2tw vanilla) or with a patch

M2TW installed and... it works!!!
Time to patch it...
I think reinstalling M2TW cleaned the registry (I checked and it did) which fixed it. When I checked it it said my game was version 1.3 or something like that.

Anyways I will keep editing this post as I install updates.

EDIT:
After installing the 1.2 patch it didn't work, maybe I should have restarted my comp when it asked me to.
Anyways uninstalled and starting over.

It is definatly the 1.2 patch.

I have literally spent 2 hours looking over other threads, probably like 30 in that amount of time, all with the same problem.

The only thing I got from them was to uninstall, make sure the registries are gone, and reinstall. OR you have a corrupt patch.

So can someone please give me a link to the patch they used, and does anyone know how to fix this problem if it isn't a bad patch? (I highly doubt it is bad)

wich version do you have (EU, Gold, Spanish.. etc etc)?

if it's EU, use these (1.2 and 1.3):

these patches take alot to install, around 30 mins to 1 hour, so just wait even if it seems stopped

I would assume its US since I got it in the US, but I do not think it has to do with a bad download.

Somehow my game does no work because of the 1.2 patch and many other peoples...

I will try them out now.

This time I manually deleted the registry and then ran Ccleaner to clean it.
If it doesn't work after this, I have no idea what is causing the problems. I know for sure it isn't securom because we just did a clean install, and all we have are 3 steam games installed and Fruity loops.

The 1.2 patch can be a bad download. When the patch was releaesd, it took me three tries to get a good copy, It had enough to install but would immediately ctd.

The only way I could do it was disable every autoupdater including Windows and my firewall, and the only things I had running were XP, firewall, and the download, and then fought with my wife over the tv for the next two hours.

If you have Kingdoms, run it off there.

Edit: two other things that have been known to help are if running Vista or 7 disable the UAC and install in a different location like c:\games.

Ok.
I do have kingdoms, but it would CTD after installing up to 1.5 exactly like how it does with M2TW 1.2.

I will try installing into a different folder and disabling UAC as well, although when I managed to play on Vista I had UAC and it was in program files.
What still confuses me is how it worked fine on Vista the first time, and then suddenly it wouldn't work the 2nd time I installed it. Then I do a clean install of windows 7 and it has the same problem as my 2nd install on Vista.

I was reading through other threads and people got my problem when they were reinstalling the game.

1.2 is working!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Time to install 1.3 and then Kingdoms... I think it was cleaning the registry that fixed it, because I doubt the patches on my kingdoms disc were corrupt.

Ugh.
Everything was going smooth until I install kingdoms.
Kingdoms CTDs during the initial loading screen, and the log is exactly the same as the one in my first post.
M2TW still works though, so Kingdoms did something. I am updating to 1.5 to see if that helps.
EDIT:
Kingdoms doesn't work with 1.5.
So right now Kingdoms is causing the game to CTD, are there any ways to fix this?

ok this is weird, EVERYTHING works except for kingdoms.
All of the campaigns work fine. It's just kingdoms that crashes.

During the initial loading screen it CTDs and a little white box with "ok" appears but no other txt, and kingdoms turns all black in the background.

EDIT
After reading other posts I have discovered that it always CTDs if you try running kingdoms.exe
So I am going to install DLV now and pray that it works.

Yes I have the 1.5 patch.
Installing DLV will take a few minutes... I am pretty confident this will work since all of the campaigns worked and someone who had my exact problem installed a mod and it worked.
