Alternate History Movies

Hey all, I was wondering if anyone had a few good suggestions as to some Alternate History Movies? I've been a big fan of Alt-History since.. forever it seems. I've gotten as many Harry Turtledove books I could get my hands on, etc. but I've failed to ever really watch a good alternate history movie.

These two are a few that I can Remember,but theres another one that deals with germany invading britain or something along those lines

Harry Turtledove? I think I have all of his individually written works and most of his collaborations. An excellent author constantly answering the age old "What if...?" I'm afraid I havent heard of many alternate history movies. The only one I can think of off of the top of my head is Planet of the Apes. Out of curiosity, what book or series is your favorite?

Fatherland. A very interesting movies about Nazis winning WWII.

Others are Jin Roh (an anime about Japan turning into a hive of unrest after WWII, with elite military police being sent in to quell them), Steamboy (another anime about steampunk) and C.S.A: Confederate States of America (somewhat tongue in cheek though)

Code Geass! Napoleon beat the British at Waterloo, and then invaded and took over The British Isles. The British Empire, and the Monarch family then retreated to North America to Canada and what remained of it's Colonial Holdings, in time annexing the United States and Forming the Britiannian Empire. Many Years later they would invade Japan bringing forth the Events seen in Code Geass. A lot of Nations are different because of the the outcome from the Napoleonic Wars. Including China which still has an Monarch.... well Emperess, well figure head style Emperess. Because of the lose during the war in Europe Britiannia became very compeditive, and almost fascist like, deciding it had to be strong no matter what it's like the IDea of Capitalism but not in the idea of wealth and happiness but POWER POWER POWER, step on people's face to get higher positions, hmmm actually that sounds like Capitalism. I know it's not a movie, but the last episode is worth tears. >.<;

Jin Roh! Thats great, actually they have a few movies based off Jin Roh, I think a few live action movies and one animated movie. Including this very short fan film.


Actually thinking about it you can now call the Original Macross TV series Alternate History now as well since the Event that started it happened in 1999. Well it's now nearly 2010 and well that event never happened.

Oooo all of those are very interesting. I don't know, perhaps it's one already mentioned, but isn't their one, in which The Germans when WW2, and it takes place in Phildelphia, with like.. the resistance or something?

And, I like all of the books of his that I've read.. my favorite(s) having to be Guns of the South, or In The Presence of Mine Enemies.

His lost orders series, or at least the ones that I've read, are very good too.

Inglorious Basterds is definitely an awesome move, particulary if you are Jewish! Go Bear Jew!

how is Children of Men historical says I? anywho, Fatherland is the only one I can think of right now

This isn't a genre I can think that has a lot of movies. The only one I can think of is Watchmen.

Yes, anime has a number of alternate history movies/shows.

Watchmen is sorta awesome.

Yet hardly "historical"... Still awesome overall...

Didnt remember Watchmen I guess you could call it "alternate historical" a little bit.
Oh, perhaps not really historical but just remembered it: RICHARD III with Sir Ian McKellen (Gandalf), awesome movie!!!

Yep, Sir Ian kicks some serious arse to become King in a heavy centralist-nationalist government in England in what looks like mid 1950´s but it´s quite atemporal.

I don't know if things like 1984 and Brazil would count, but they're both very good films.

the man in the high tower by PHilip K dick is a good alternate history book. Japan has taken over america. It takes place in the 80s iirc.

Alternate historty? Conan the barbarian. It's on par with most hollywood history movies

Suppose Red Dawn is an Alternate History one, I think its a kool movie where Russians and mexicans invade America during the Cold War

Only thing is isn't Conan supposed to be "actual" history? Like events that take place after the "fall of Atlantis" but before what we know as recorded history?

Its like Cthulu Mythos stories. Those and actual history could coexist, its not really an "alternate" history.
