Default Turkey arrests three for spying

    Kala Xristougenna to all

Turkish authorities have arrested three men on suspicion of selling military information to Greece.
The suspects, all Turkish nationals, were arrested Wednesday in Izmir and Bodrum after being sought by police and the security services for nearly a year, news reports said.
Several cameras, telescopes, telephone chips and photos of military bases were seized.
Turkish intelligence units also found out that a Greek spy, disguised as a diplomat, is working at the Greek Consulate General in Izmir, reported daily Hürriyet.
The Turkish National Intelligence Organization, or MIT, registered the Greek spy's movements and his relations with the three Turkish spies for six months. The Turks could have received between 500 and 1,000 euros for passing information about Turkish military bases to the Greek spy.
Turkey asked Greece to call back its diplomat immediately, otherwise the diplomat would be declared "persona non grata." Athens immediately summoned its diplomat.
Turkey and Greece are NATO members but several factors have undermined relations, including the sovereignty of the Aegean Sea.

Every single country in the world does this. Every single consulate in the world has intelligence people. And every single country in the world with foreign embassies on its territory has intelligence people watching the embassy staff. It's normal. All that happened here is that the ''diplomat'' was caught red-handed.

As far as the Turkish spies go, I wonder what the penalty for treason is in Turkey these days? Personally I think they should be shot.

Ι find it really hard that Greek spy agency is so good to do even that

you see Greek Politics if you want to spy you have to stable leadership

and in Greek with every elections the adminstration of all Greek service change.

If i take i wild guess may be those arrested were immigrants slave-traders presented as spies .

Cause i have sense since Ertodogan has good relations with Greece the militairy leaders always try to create a problem in Aegium.

    Shot?
Naaa, they will have their asses kicked pretty bad though.

I have not heard about this news but I do not think it is important. Except for those who will go to jail.
"Therefore I am not in favour of raising any dogmatic banner. On the contrary, we must try to help the dogmatists to clarify their propositions for themselves. Thus, communism, in particular, is a dogmatic abstraction; in which connection, however, I am not thinking of some imaginary and possible communism, but actually existing communism as taught by Cabet, Dézamy, Weitling, etc. This communism is itself only a special expression of the humanistic principle, an expression which is still infected by its antithesis – the private system. Hence the abolition of private property and communism are by no means identical, and it is not accidental but inevitable that communism has seen other socialist doctrines – such as those of Fourier, Proudhon, etc. – arising to confront it because it is itself only a special, one-sided realisation of the socialist principle."

You do realize that it's not treason if you're not Turkish, right?

Anyway, that's cool, but nothing really spectacular.

    That's treason.

As far as the Greek diplomat, he's allowed to get out fast under diplomatic immunity.

    Yes.

IF a war did develop the spy's information would be used against his own people, costing lives, and maybe even losing a war.

This isn't shoplifting. This is serious stuff. The fact that a war is unlikely is irrelevant.

Of course it's irrelevant, when you get a kick out of killing people.

Yes, it should be done, for 'kicks'.

Did you have a real reply or just wanted to make a silly comment?

I think it counts as both, to be honest. I mean, there's no reason why this srs srs bizness can't be stopped by imprisoning these spies, rather than executing them in a public square.

    That's treason.
In law, treason is the crime that covers some of the more serious acts of disloyalty to one's sovereign or nation.

By virtue of their citizenship they are being disloyal. They are traitors.
