    Default RTR VII

I'm kind of new to RTR, so this may sound noobish

I am wondering if RTR VII is gonna have a grand campaign, unlike these smaller maps in FoE etc.? Or is this the purpose of this new version of RTR?

    Thanks for your time,
    Basiliscus

Yes RTR VII will have a grand campaign, and grand it will be if it is anything like FOE lol!

Don't worry about asking "noobish" questions, that's why there is a forum to go along with the mod lol.

The team is just going to focus on making multiple Mini-Campaigns before it tackles the "Grand Campaign"

Yep, the latest that is being worked on is FOE2, which includes a few more empires (going a bit further east and north)

I gave Tony some things for an FAQ thread, but nothing seems to have surfaced, yet It would help for newcomers.

I would rather have more campaigns like FOE.

EDIT: IIRC one of the mod staff was saying how a GC would be a step backwards, since a lot of detail would be lost due to the region/unit/etc limits.

So if there'd come a GC, chances are that we'll have to switch to a better game-engine

Yes indeed chaps, FOE 2 is our current focus of attention, and I guess that in geographic terms it can be considered to be about three quarters of the traditional Grand Campaign in scope.

    FOE 2 minimap

I think FOE 2 is going to be the nearest we will get to a Grand Campaign, using the RTW engine, as it uses up all the available settlement slots, using the current major/minor region format. To extend the map further we would have to dilute, if not abandon, a very important element that contribuites greatly to FOE's unique dynamic.

So, while RTR's path, post-FOE, has yet to be decided, moving across to the Med II engine has to be a serious option. However, that is a bridge we need not and have not crossed yet, but we will keep you all informed as our future objectives emerge.

    @ Caligula Caesar

I've not forgotten about the FAQ, but I'm on a little bit of a sabbatical until the New Year, and will work on it then.

No, I rather think that FOE 2 will be a full install in it's own right. It's difficult to say when it will be released: we have a rather vague target of the Spring but there is still a lot of work to do, with the number of playable factions being more than doubled.

thanks mate and congratulation for this great mod.
the foe 2 are will historical and the foe 2 have will scripts and historical events?

I was hoping someone would post that map soon!

I dunno, the only thing that prevents me from calling FOE 1 a "Grand Campaign" is that there are only six playable factions. A more complete faction list makes me willing to say that FOE 2 is a Grand Campaign in scope.

But I guess the term has come to mean India-to-Britain. Which is kind of silly, as, say, adding China and Japan wouldn't make the campaign any grander, it would just dilute everything else.

Exactly Arkaeyn! FOE 2.0 is as close to a GC as you can get without actually being one. I think this baby will be the best RTR mod yet.

The map is fabulous! I just love the detail around Greece! Especially Hellenes Point and the Bosporus Straits.

It is a rather cool map. Only a few miniregions were taken from the west to be added in the east and north, and they aren't easy to spot The depth of FOE2 will be about the same as FOE1, I think.

Note that that is a bit of an outdated minimap, and it seems to be a few years into the campaign, so there are some differences to the latest version, there.

We mustn't show people the latest stuff, must we

Lol - I didn't purposely show an old map, it's taken from my latest Roman beta campaign, which is about seven years in, so I don't think it's radically out of date.
