Default Unit Descriptions - NEW CHALLENGE!!!

Well, to improve the playability of this great mod and bring more of Warhammer feel I decided to start this thread.
All English speakers are welcomed to write long descriptions for units, based on Warhammer fluff. Somebody perhaps have armybooks etc..
Post your descriptions here and they will be implemented
Try to post descriptions for the entire faction, not some separate units

    regards

    Still to write:

    Empire
    High Elves
    Dogs of War
    Vampires
Kislev need to look through them, Kislev is the most important for Slavs
    Dwarfs
Orcs and Goblins need to read it
    Chaos

    Dark Elves

we need new Unit descriptions for reinforcements!

    here's the list, gentlemen

    Warpriests of Sigmar
    Sorcerers of Tzeentch
    Sorcerers of Nurgle
    Nuln Engineers (with multibarrelled guns)
    Bright Wizards
    Ogres

I think the Heretics need new descriptions as well, you can give it a try

    Heretics Halberdiers
    Heretics Swordsmen
    Heretics Spearmen
    Heretics Crossbowmen

Ok thought i´d give it a go on vampires, bear in mind that i dont speak russian, and dont know much about warhammer. So all you people who knows something about warhammer could maybe fill in what i´ve missed. And beregond, some words the google translator can´t fix so maybe you could take a look at them (zombies didn´t come out so well)

Ok, i reworked the Vampire count faction by using some own material together with google translate. I rewrote the whole thing to better suited english. Wrote a bit on my own too as you might notice to fill in the atmostphere of the unit. Hope you like it.

    Skeleton Mount
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

    Skeleton Mount
The most common soldiers of vampire armies, skeletons wear light armor together with a shield and something they have found in the surrounding to be used as a weapon. Skeletons are mindless beings controlled by their Vampire lord. As they have no mind and thoughts of their own they cannot feel emotions like fear. This makes them ideal warriors as they will fight to the last man standing. They are however in lesser quality then their human counterparts but they tend to make up in numbers what they like in skill.

Low-quality but numerous fighters. Use shield and sword.

    Grave guard
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

    Grave guard
In ancient times, the people of the Old World buried their heroes under mounds of earth and stones, together with all the equipment and ammunition. Black Magic Necromancers can resurrect these ancient warriors, turning them into undead. Their flesh is since long ago rotten, but the awakening magic is strong enough to sustain their existence for centuries. These are guards wearing ancient rust eaten armor of bronze and black iron covered with dust. Some vampire lords govern several regiments of these powerful warriors. They are composed of soldiers who devoted their lives to fight the Vampires. Now they serve them in the afterlife as tireless ever vigilant guards patrolling the walls of keeps like Drakenhof. Their arms bear an evil spell that can fell even the strongest of enemies. These elite units are heavily armored wielding a sword. In times of peace they protect the cemetery from rival necromancers.

Elite units of skeletons once being Heroes. They fight with magic swords and wear heavy armor.

Skeletons in armor, armed with knife and longbow

    Zombies
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

    Zombies
Zombies are usually raised by a necromancer directly before a battle as they are slow, thus preventing the speed of the army. Their bodies quickly fall apart making it impossible to keep them for a longer campaign. Blood dragons tend to create immortal zombies to serve as their squires. The Zombie is like the skeleton a mindless being, they will serve their master to the end.

    Black knights
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

    Black knights
The most feared and dreaded of the grave guard fight on horseback. They are known as the Black Knights. Their steeds are like themselves since long ago dead and they are called Nightmares. A Nightmare is returned to life by black magic and make an excellent fighting unit only by themselves. Flames of fury burning in their eyes together with their decomposed bodies produce horror and disgust unlike anything else. Smell of death spread around them when riding into battle sickening nearby enemies.

Excellent cavalry, using heavy armor, magic blades, lances and shields.

    Blood Dragons
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

    Blood Dragons
These are the Immortal sons of Abhorash. They call themselves blood dragons, in memory of the great dragon that Abhorash defeated and drank blood from. The dragon blood liberated him from his thirst of human blood. The blood dragons main strife is to improve his combat abilities and become so skilled that he can survive without drinking blood, like their master Abhorash did before them. This is the strife to become the ultimate warrior, an immortal man with the skills of a vampire no longer needing human blood to survive. When a blood dragon succeeded in becoming the ultimate warrior Abhorash would call for him to join him, and they would go to war. It is said that Abhorash still awaits at the mountain peak where he defeated the dragon. Walach Harkon was the vampire who took the blood dragons to the lands of the empire by defeating the entire order of the blood dragon on his own. Those deemed worthy were given a sip of his blood passing his curse to them.Blood dragons are usually fallen knights from the realm of Bretonnia. They are the most skilled warriors in the old world and many have several centuries of combat experience making them superior to any mortal foe.

The best mounted warriors in Vampire Counts Armies

Elite warriors, dismounted Blood Dragons wielding two-handed blades

    Wraiths
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

    Wraiths
Wraiths are the souls of evil wizards who desecrated the study of necromancy. Desperately clinging to life they use sorcery to bind their sould to the mortal world. Some succeed and become necromancers. However, most lack the willpower to sustain his physical form. In time his body fades leaving a void with clothes left behind. They cling on to their miserable existence as ghosts, now serving a vampire lord.

    Here is the text file.

Lordinquisitor: Read through mine, gave it pretty much work rewriting so most of the texts should be fine to use, might be some minor mistakes but nothing major as i can see.

EDIT: Any thoughts about this? Would be good if someone gave some feedback as i might start on a new faction soon. Would be good to have before.

Thx, how do you implement the texts in the game? Is it just to change the .txt file or do you need to edit CFG files with python or similar?

Think i will give Empire or chaos a go next. Would be cool if someone could look into Kislev cuz dont even have a clue about thier lore. But will check into that tommorrow or tonight.

    SOLDIERS OF THE EMPIRE

    Halberdiers
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
These soldiers are the most common type of Empire State Troops, because each Elector Count is required to have a standing force of Halberdiers. The Empire halberd is a heavy weapon, capable of dealing terrible damage and is best used against armoured enemies and very tough creatures as Orcs.

    Speamen
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
A formation of spears makes an excellent defensive regiment. Enemies who charge a unit of Spearmen are faced with an impassable wall of sharp steel points. Spearmen are more common in the northern provinces. In the southern provinces, which are influenced by nearby Tilea where the pike is the infantry's weapon of choice, the traditional Empire spears are often replaced by similar pole weapons, commonly called half-pikes.

    Swordsmen
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Swordsmen are expert fencers. They are regarded as romantic and dashing figures, often bravely engaging the best enemy regiments. Their great ability with the sword makes them a tough challange for even the most skilled opponents.

    Handgunners
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Handgunners are highly effective troops armed with long-bareelled blackpowder weapons. These weapons are known as handguns and are manufactured in Nuln. Often the best marksmen among them get to use of the deadly experimental weapons created by the Engineers' Guild.

    Archers
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
In the Empire, the bow is the classic weapon of the yeomen, and these troops are normally organised into small groups of skirmishers who support the regimented units in battle. Trappers and hunters from the northern provinces, such as Ostland are often called to serve in special units called Huntsmen, which are employed to scout ahead of the main army.

    Crossbowmen
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Crossbows are not popular weapons in the Empire, though Tilean mercenaries are often recruited to augment the firepower of a Count's army. Some Counts from the southern provinces retain units of Crossbowmen as part of their personal household troops. Crossbows may lack the penetrative power of handguns, but are just as accurate in the hands of an expert.

    Free Companies
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
A source of irregular troops are the bands of footloose young men and would be adventurers who wander off to seek their fortunes in such places as the Border Princes of the Wasteland. They are good fighters but liable to casue trouble in taverns. They also represent a ready source of expendable troops, often brave, reckless and hardened to the rigours of campaigning.

    Greatswords
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Members of the Greatswords are personally picked by the Elector Counts from among the champions of their troops. Greatswords form the garrison of the Count's castle and their personal bodyguard on the battlefield. Equipped with deadly two-handed swords and superb suits of full plate armour made by Dwarf Smiths, Greatswords swear to never give ground to the enemies of the Empire and to protect the Count at the cost of their own lives.

    Pistoliers
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
These are nobles' sons who are not yet old or experienced enough to win their spurs as Knights. In battle, they outflank the enemy and disrupt its lines with sudden hit-and-run attacks. Being rather young and inexperienced, Pistoliers are inclined to be hot-headed and rather wild, bravely dashing into the jaws of danger. The armour and weapons carried by a Pistolier are provided by his family.

The Knights of the Inner Circle
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Each Order has a very complex hierarchic structure, but almost all of them are governed by an Inner Circle of Knights. These heroic warriors have accomplished a mighty feat of arms, distinguishing themselves and earning the right to ascend to this important position. The Knights of the Inner Circle are the elite of the elite, certainly the best fighting men of all the Empire.

    The Reiksguard Knights
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
They form the bodyguard of the Emperor. The Order was founded during the reign of Wilhelm, the first Emperor of the lineage of the Princes of Altdorf. Devout Templars of Sigmar, Reiksguard Knights swear to give their lives to protect the Emperor, who is the living incarnation of Sigmar. Their Grand Master is the Reiksmarshall of the Empire, commander of all the Empire forces, second only to the Emperor himself.

The Knights of the White Wolf
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
The Order is based in the city of Middenheim, where it was founded following a great victory against Chaos outside the city walls. The Knights are all followers of the god Ulric. They wear mantles of wolf skins over their armour, carry neither shield nor helm, and ride to battle areheaded to show off their long hair and beards. Their weapon is a mighty warhammer which they swing round their heads, knocking enemy horsemen from their saddles and pounding the skills of foes on foot.

    The Teutogen Guard
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
They are the personal bodyguard of Al-Ulric in his role as an Elector of the Empire, accompanying him both at state occasions and on the battlefield. Their members are selected from the ranks of the Templars of Ulric - the Knights of the White Wolf, often from Order's Inner Circle. Being selected for a tour of duty in the Teutogen Guard is one of the highest accolades a Knight of the White Wolf can receive.

    The Knights Panther
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
The Knights Panther trace their origins to the wars against Araby, when returning crusaders brought back outlandish animals from the east. Some of these Knights adopted the panther as their emblem, creating the Order of the Knights Panther.

The Knights of the Blazing Sun
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
The Knights of this order are located deep in the South of Middenland. They are small but much respected Order with a distinguished history. They were the first of the knightly orders from the west to travel to Nuln and join with Magnus. The Knights take great pride in their weapons and abilities. They can often be seen charging on the battlefield in their highly polished and resplendent armour of black and gold.

    The Black Knights of Morr
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

Encased in obsidian black armour and deathly silent when on battlefield. They are the dark guardians of the empire. When parents wish to get their children to sleep at night they tell them the Knights of Morr will come for them unless they rest. Held in a mixture of fear and respect by the Imperial military and the other Knightly Orders no one can doubt their martial prowess as they despatch enemies with silent efficiency.

I need to take a short brake and will write the rest for the Empire and after that I'll write the descriptions of the Dwarfs.

    EDIT

    And now the rest...

    Reiksguard on Foot
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
The Reiksguard Knights are the Emperor's best troops and, as such, form the core of his household guard. In battle the Reiksguard favour fighting in large regiments, the better to cow the enemy with the full might of a decisive charge. But there are times when these proud warriors must fight on foot. Imperial history is full of references to great battles won by a stalwart defence by the Reiksguard Foot. Hence, only fools would question the importance of such regiment.

    Great Cannon
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Cannons are dangerous if sometimes unpredictable weapons whose manufacture is limited to a few groups of human and Dwarf experts. When they work cannons can shatter the most determined enemy, pouring shot into his massed fomations, leveling his cities and topping huge monsters. They are extremely deadly weapons that have been instrumental in winning more than one battle on behalf of their users.

    Nuln Great Cannon
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
The Imperial Gunnery School at Nuln is the biggest cannon foundry in the world, and it is here that the Emperor's gunners receive their training and the mightiest cannons are manufactured.

    Mortar
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Mortars are shorter, heavier weapons than cannons, designed to lob an explosive shell high into the air so that it drops down onto the target. A mortar shell is hollow and filled with gunpowder. A well placed mortar shell can kill a great many victims at once.

    Helblaster Volley Gun
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
The Volley Gun, or as it is called by the Engineers as 'Von Meinkopt's macro-mainspring of multitudinous precipitation of pernicious lead', has nine seperate barrels, divided into three decks of three barrels, fixed on a circular crank. It can fire several shots at once in a devastating volley which will rip through the toughest regiment causing immense casualties in the blink of an eye. Or it can jam, misfire and explode!

    Hochland Marksmen
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Hochland Marksmen are the finest in the entire Empire. The famous Hochland Long Rifle was developed from weapons used by the hunters of that land. These men know what is expected from them and as in the Drakwald forest there is often only time for a single volley before foes are upon them, so Hochland Marksmen learn to make each shot count.

    The Carroburg Greatswords
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
The Carroburg Greatswords first earned its reputation during the Siege of Carroburg in 1865, where its soldiers successfully defended the walls of their city against the Count of Middenland's vast army. Despite the horrific casualties and many wounds they suffered during the battle, the Greatswords fought on resolutely and by battle's end, their white Reikland uniforms were drenched in blood. From that moment onwards, the Carroburg Greatswords have worn dark red uniforms in remembrance of that bloody battle.

    Stir River Patrol
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

The mighty Stir river runs from the Worlds Edge Mountains to the Reik, forming the border of Stirland and a well-plied trade route. The watery highway must be constantly patrolled, as the wealthy merchant barges attract attention of the worst kind. Stirland send its best men to protect this vital route.

    The War Altar of Sigmar
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
When war calls the High Priests of Sigmar to battle, it is an awe-inspiring sight to see them ride at the head of an army atop the mighty War Altar of Sigmar. Fashioned in the time of Magnus the Pious, the War Altar is a colossal chariot, ornate and gleaming with a towering effigy of a golden griffon carried upon it. Bellowing unforgiving verses from the Canticle of the Heldenhammer, the Arch Lector imbues the army's soldiers with a profound and righteous fury.

To be honest I have no idea (at least for now) what to write about these units: Talabecland Swordmasters, Averland Heavy Halberdiers, Ostland Spearmen and Nordland Heavy Crossbowmen. It seems wright that they should have different descriptions because they are different units from the common ones.

Are there any other Imperial units? I haven't found any other but If I missed sth just point that out to me.

In the meantime I'll do the Stunties.

If you don't mind Action fighter, I'd like to try and polish up your descriptions. There's nothing majorly wrong, but I feel I might
be able to improve them. Hoping I don't sound like a conceited ass. What do you think?

Sure thing, go on. I know there are some minor mistakes and stuff so give it a shot. Post it up here on the forum afterwards and i'll read through it and provide some feedback.

Arostine: Thx, will do that. Going to make a more accurate translation of unit abilities and battle status too i think, so it matches the vanilla ones.

Vogarte: That is really good. Can help alot in providing good descriptions.

No just edit the export_units.txt under (in my case) C:\Games\Medieval II Total War\mods\teutonic\data\text with notepad there you have all the factions and rebels etc.

    Skeleton Mounts
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Making up a vast majority of the ranks in a vampires army, skeletal warriors are equipped with the bare minimum of arms and armour. Completely mindless, lacking any and all emotions, these creatures are the perfect soldiers, obeying orders down to the last letter without question. Retreat is not an option for them. Despite this, their martial skills are not what they might have been in life, and unless they severely outnumber their foe, they are unlikely to win a battle on their own.
Weak but numerous. Armed with a sword and a shield

I'll try the other ones later. What do you lot think?

Thrawn: Good job, i like your descriptions. Very well written and everything makes sense to me. I will take a look into chaos next then but taking a break playing the great mod for now.

Astor: Looks good, maybe you could add something about how they are connected to their lord, not necessary but i think it would be good.
Maybe change "and unless they severely outnumber their foe, they are unlikely to win a battle on their own." to "They make up in numbers what they lack in skill". Or just add it afterwards works too.

I used the official 'lore' - Warhammer The Empire 6th edition, Empire Crusades 6th edition and Cult of Ulric 6th edition. I still need to complete this list with 14 units entries. They should be done today.

    ps.
Empire is my first WFB army so I have to do this

Still really good job on them, i have implemented them together with my VC translation and posted it in the translate section. Really need to get a hand on official lore text somehow.

Btw i can't find the entries for teutogen guard and Knights of the white wolf so they arent implemented in the game yet. Would be good if someone could post their directory path cause i can't find them in normal one.
