Just wanted to say one thing. PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT CALL THE HIGHLAND UNIT BLACK WATCH!!!!!!! There were so many more highland units around at the time (Gordons, Ross Shire Buffs, Camerons, Just to name a few!!!!!) So please Call them Highlanders or something of the sort.

Not the Highland unit though. They are Scottish but they are cavalry, I'm talking Scottish Infantry Regiments.

    @ OP

Its perfectly fine to call them "The Black Watch" after all, they're only one particular Highland regiment that CA has decided to include. They could have included others, yes, but as it stands its just the 42nd Black Watch and no one else so there's nothing wrong with calling them that. They also wear the Black Watch tartan (or should have but for some reason in Empire they didn't) which again shows them to be one particular regiment of the Highlanders in the British Army.

What they should do is make each major Highland regiment such as the Gordon Highlanders (especially during the NTW period) but alas its just the Black Watch. A collective term for all of them would be Highlanders, yes, but as of now its only the Black Watch in the game.

I think he was suggesting that their be more than just the black watch, and I agree as I get tired of seeing the same old generic line infantry, why not have a highland line infantry and a regular? Then we can name them 42nd, 77th,78th...

I think the Gordon Highlanders played a more important role in history than the Black Watch. I think they will include the black watch as a elite unit, but the Gordon (92nd) and whoever will just be regulars, thats why you haven't heard of them yet in the game.

Why just highlanders? There were plenty of lowlanders as well.
A new mobile phone tower went up in a town in the USA, and the local newspaper asked a number of people what they thought of it. Some said they noticed their cellphone reception was better. Some said they noticed the tower was affecting their health.

A local administrator was asked to comment. He nodded sagely, and said simply: "Wow. And think about how much more pronounced these effects will be once the tower is actually operational."

True, but only certain of the Highland Regiments wore distinctive uniforms.

    @ selder

The reason you cannot have a single Highland unit and just name them with their respective numbers is because they have their own tartan. The Black Watch wear, well, Black Watch tartan. The Gordons have their own aswell. This is why a "Highland Infantry" unit just wouldn't work - you would need seperate units.

If CA would have one unit called highlanders everyone on this forum would whine about how "different highlanders had different uniforms" and such... There is impossible for them to make Units that is satisfactory for everyone.

    impossible?

go find the tartan pattern associated with the clans on wikipedia and use that as a basis for the character textures in the game. a 5 year old could literally do that.

They could do what they did with the Black Watch and give them multiple tartans.

Thats actually a good question for the Devolpment Team. One feature that was really lacking from Empire:TW was the military bands. Its very hard to imagine giving an order to advance the 92nd of Foot without the wail of their bagpipes or similarily moving the "Old Guard" forward without "La Marche des Grognards".

It was promised for Empire but not delivered (one of the many things not to make the final cut). The like of fifes and drum music hurt the realism of Empire but it would be even worse if it can scraped for Napoleon. Does anyone know if this will be added? It would certainly be a most welcome feature.

Fields of Glory (1990s) had fully marching bands (well music at least) so I cannot imagine that this would be too difficult to implement. If they felt ambitous they could even use bands a seperate "support" unit whose job is to bolster the Line troops Morale with inspiring music. (Like a Bard class does in RPGs).

I would even be willing to put up with a delay or purchase a DLC download just to have this.

I know they wore their own respective tartan I was saying it makes more sence to have a generic highland line infantry than not to have them in the game at all as they made up a substantial part of any british army. Take Empire for example... by 1757 more than 30% of the total british force in america was made up of scots yet in the game they are non existant.

Would people really complain if tartans were identical for all scots regiments? I say there would be no more complaining about that than the fact that all line infantry for any given faction have the same colour facings. If this "unit editor" goes ahead, it would be silly if facings could be changed in game and tartans couldn't, but it's silly to call for one but not the other.

I agree. I was a bit annoyed to find only one available highland unit in Empire. I wanted to have lots of Scottish regiments, marching about and killing people. There's only so much killing one battalion of Black Watch could do. I really hope we get more in empire.

And the bagpipes...they lied in Empire when they said there would be battlefeild music.. all we got was drums. Each unit in NTW should have a piper/ musician as well as a drummer. The Highland units would only be half as good without the bagpipes.

What bothers me is that there is plenty of historical info for uniforms from many different armies for the entire Empire/Napoleon era. Table-top wargamers are able (with much time spent painting) to depict many famous regiments from all the major powers of the period. Why aren't CA willing to put the time in to make sure that a greater no of regiments have the correct outfit? They can still have the same stats, but it would add a lot of variety to the game, and make your veteran units much more identifiable. The Highlanders in particular have a great deal of interest because of their individual appearance, with their officers and traditional clan chiefs carrying broadswords into battle as the pipes skirled. Get it right CA!
