    Default GIBRALTAR CROSSING IN RS2

So out of interest, and i realize this was probably covered in another thread, is the Gibraltar crossing accessible from Spain to North Africa as a point where land armies can move from Europe to Africa and vice versa in Roma Surrectum 2, or is it not accessible?

Also, is their a big mountain pass that blocks East and West Africa in RS2?

There is a land bridge at Gibraltar...this aids Carthage considerably. There is no need for a mountain blocking east and west Africa...at least not as far as we have seen. The Ptolemies and Carthage have never crossed Africa to war with each other in all of our testing. It does sorta help that Western Cryenaica is held by the Free Greeks. They keep the two apart.

Great thats exactly what I was hoping for, Btw are the Free Greeks a playable faction? or simply one of the "Free People" with greek units?

The free greeks act very much like independent city-states (Massalia, Athens, stuff like that)
They pack quite a punch while never making an empire!

They do occasionally in AI campaigns I've watched.

Yes, but the player plays the mod,so they will be very heavily influenced by the players's decisions...although they don't seem very agressive.
(I have seen forces from Massalia capturing Genoa, but I bought it back from them, so that could have been the potential start of an empire)

They will be a hard faction to play, since their recruitment is very AOR limited. But for the Greek lover, it should be a rewarding experience with just about every kind of unit you could think of. Indeed, if you conquer Sparta, you can build their barracks and recruit Spartan units....even.

So in essence when playing as the Greeks you will be recruiting units mainly in very distinct Areas Of Recruitment, each with its very Region Specific units, and once out of those AORs, the only thing that you'll be able to recruit is week levy troops? This makes for a very interesting kind of gameplay, and as dvk says, challenging. I would just like to know if the Free Greeks have any kind of Generic Hoplite Units which they utilize apart from their distinctive city Hoplites (which are obviously incredible). So for instance, is there a levy hoplite and regular hoplite that the Free Greeks have at their disposal?

Furthermore, when you capture Sparta and build their barracks, you are able to recruit "ALL" of the Spartan units, or just a select few. Either or, this option is fantastic
(Oh and also, on the topic of the Spartans... does Sparta begin with one settlement? or two?)

I don't believe you can recruit all...but you certainly could jsut be able to recruit a few.
I'm not sure, I've not been able to leave asia with those damn parthian horse archers knockin' at my gates as the seleucid empire.

The Free Greek City States are made up of various cities spread out across the map....Massilia, Syracuse, Dalmatia, Crete, Corinth, Athens, Boiotia, Bithynia, Chersonesus, Bosporan, Western Cyrenaica, Rhodes, etc. Each of these cities is a 'mini-faction' in it's own right...most of them have a very diverse unit roster that is better than RTW's original ones, and are unique to them alone. The reason it will be a hard campaign is because you'll be able to recruit NOTHING outside of those cities. So you might call it the 'AOR Campaign from Hell'. Originally, it wasn't going to be a playable faction...but popular demand made it so. And, you need conquer only 40 regions to win, so it won't be THAT hard.

As far as recruiting Spartans, only the Free Greeks can do that. No one else. The reasons for that are many...model sharing and our future plans for swap factions. RS2, Sparta and the Free Greeks are all set up for the swap faction process as far as recruitment goes, and Sparta is the faction that gets swapped out.

I like the sound of that, they may very well be my first campaign- them or sparta.
