Hello,
Recently I purchased Medieval II: Total War; Gold Edition. Upon trying to install the program, I experienced problems because of SecuROM thinking I was trying to use emulation software, while I don't have any emulation software even installed on our computer. I contacted SecuROM, and they had me copy all of the original files on the CD to a new folder. This solved the first problem, and the game successfully installed. However, the game would not launch correctly, so SecuROM sent me a new kingdoms.exe file. This file caused the game to launch and enter full-screen mode. A loadscreen appeared, and it seemed to be starting fine. But then the game suddenly exits full-screen mode, and the window is completely black; the cursor is an hourglass (for some reason you can't move the cursor out of the window). Nothing will happen, except for a popup with an error symbol and only clicking 'OK' as an option, which will close the program.
Here's a screenshot I took:

Our computer does meet the minimum requirements.
SecuROM determined, after inspecting the analysis file and screenshot I sent, that this launch problem is not SecuROM related. I've tried a thorough uninstall/reinstall in the hopes that it would work out any corruptions that may have spawned during the installation process. I'm getting frustrated, as I've tried seemingly everything (and it looks like a good game) with no success. I'd really like the game to work, and would rather not return it. Any help you can offer would be sincerely appreciated.
Thanks
