    Default Vanilla skins

I noticed in some screenshots that Greek hoplites have the same icon and battlefield skin as in the Vanilla version. I'm a bit tired of those red hoplite mercenaries and want to have them look like those from Vanilla. Is there a way to add the textures from Vanilla or is this simply a different version of XGM?

    I play with version 5.8.26.

Those screens are probably from an older version of XGM. You can certainly change models and skins yourself though. There's a guide here. If you want to change things in XGM then obviously you need to make any changes in the [rtw]/xgm/data/ folder rather than the main data folder.

I read the thread that was pointed out. I went to check the descr_model_battle.txt and there are quite many units that could be for the red Greek hoplites: greek_hoplite_achaean, greek_hoplite_bactrian, greek_hoplite_phrygian, greek_hoplite_celtic. I firmly believe the first one is the right one but I could always be wrong. Plus, there's also greek_infantry_light, greek_infantry_medium, greek_infantry_heavy, which I'm assuming are Thurephoroi, Thorakitai and so on.

Bottom line, the provided thread said only how to change stuff. I need some more pointers on what to change.

The mercenary/AOR Hoplite unit is greek_hoplite_achaean. To find out which unit is which you can check export_descr_units.txt (that shows the stats and how the unit names match up with the model names), or if that doesn't provide enough information to be sure, check text/export_units.txt (that shows how the unit names match up with the in-game descriptions).

So basically, if I want my Greek hoplites to look like Armoured Hoplites from Vanilla, all I need to do is replace the paths for texture files in descr_model_battle.txt. Is that correct?

Well Spartans used to wear red cloaks as distinct badge of identification. Of course they never wear them in immediate combat.

Yes but Spartans were elite units and their Royal Guard were Spartan nobility. So it makes sense for them to wear scarlet or red. It makes no sense for an average hoplite to have it. Otherwise every Greek hoplite would look like a Spartan from a distance.

You do know who the hoplites were? They were men who were land owners (the nobility in this ancient time) that can afford the hoplite panoply much like the criteria for a knight in Medieval times. So I suggest dropping the reason that "red is reserved for nobility" against the hoplite.

His reasons don't matter for any but him, Hurlbut. This is his own personal modification.

Expand your borders, a mod based on XGM 5.

I suggest removing that post, Boriak. It is not civil (and totally off topic )
