Which Type of Soldier Would You Be?

Which warfare are you more incline upon; todays warfare, or ancient war? What I mean is, if you would have to, would want to, be a soldier, what would you be more incline upon; in being a horse archer, or a archer, or a Roman heavy infantry soldier, or hoplite, or a elephant riders, or a charioteer, or in the cavalry, or do you prefer todays warfare, and hence you would prefer being an infantry soldier with a M-16, or a tank driver, or a pilot etc etc.

This is if you had the choice, and if you would want to join the army.

I for my part have always been incline into being an infantry soldier, so if I had the choice to select a period in time were I would like to be a soldier, it would be about or around 400BC, and being a hoplite. I am more of a "team-player" and so the idea of being part of a bunch of men working in one block and being next to my comrades sounds more better then being a sniper or archer. I also like the idea of being able to personilize my shield and helmet.

I am more incline into being a infantry soldier, and in the idea of being in the center of a formation, and pretty much holding the line. Also, that would be more suitable for me since being in the cavalry would be more complicated for me.

And ofcourse I find ancient warfare more interesting and glorious (and you know what I think about glory) as an infantry soldier, because back then they fought hand to hand and you saw the person you just killed and their blood was in your face -- it was more warrior like, it seems to me. I wish we could go back into fighting war in such manner, but I know its not possible. Now infantry soldiers kill from far away and you don't even see the body of the person you just killed...

Anyway; what about you guys?

Definetly I'd be in the cav i LOVE cavalry( they're basically all i use in RTW :original: ) id love to be in the heavy cav charging down the enemy dismounting and fighting hand to hand...........i have a kind of bloodlust.....anyway id hate to be an archer, i mean yes it probably the safest thing u could do( if there was such a thing as "safe" in ancient warfare) but i love glory and standing back and shooting arrows randomly up in the air doesnt appeal to me.......definetly a heavy cavalry soldier.....itd have been sweet to be in alexanders companion cavalry

It would have to be light, sword and shield armed cavalry for me. Able to close in and do some damage, jump quickly in and out of the fight. I would probably really enjoy running down archers and skirmishers.

I've always wanted to be an airforce pilot. Although sadly, my eyes are perfectly 20/20, so I can't become a pilot. While I've used and know how to use guns, I've found I feel much more natural and safe with a knife or sword than a gun. I just don't trust something that could possibly go off by itself and hit myself or a buddy if facing the wrong direction.

I would think you'd be a good pilot with perfect vision. Why couldn't you be in the Air Force?

But yes, I would like to be in the USAF, flying around in my F-15 dropping bombs and generally having fun as I'm not fighting anyone who really has a snowball's chance in hell of shooting me down.

I'd be in the ancient times as a Roman heavy infantryman. I also have a fascination of ancient times.

I have to say an ancient warrior general for Rome, try to bring back the republic. Or a ww2 soldier, atleast there was still real war not like modern stuff, only modern would be a pilot, because flying looks awesome. -Leon

Personally I've always wanted to be a Russian sniper in Stalingrad. Sure they were treated like cattle and the living conditions were horrible, but since Russia is in my Heretige(sp) Its just something I've always wanted. WASTE THOSE NAZIS. id be a samurai. hey, i already have basic training with a katana (and i own several) and i believe in honour in battle, so i would like to fight one on one, hand to hand, with another skilled warrior. i hate long range weapons and firearms, there is not much skill or bravery in shooting someone from a distance is there?

haha, why that? Killing is killing, but a hand-to-hand fight just gives the chance to both to kill the other, while let's say sniping is like stabbing someone when he's not looking... not judging people who are sniper, because if I had to be an infantry in the army, I'd choose sniping...


I think I'd be a skirmisher, armed with javelins, shield and sword and some medium armor. During antiquity of course, I wouldn't like being armed with that in modern days

A skirmisher during renaissance would be a good choice too, with 2 pistols, a musket and a sword!

What I want is skirmishing, spying and ambushing!

Being a general from antiquity to renaissance would be nice to...

ancient times: armed with a spear or hoplite style, sword, anything fits me as infantry (i've wield up a gladius once and surprised myself to see that i made some great moves, and fight well with it, with some hours of training each day i'd master it to a level where it would be difficult to kill me thanks to my reflexes and defence skill)

modern times: sniper division, infantry division (but since i have no intention to join the army)

Anyway, I would like to be a cavalryman. Why? Because if the battle was going bad and I thought we were going to lose, I can run away quicker from the battle with a horse then I can on foot.
The only time I would want to be an infantrymen would be if I was a Roman legionary fighting a slow, plodding out of date Greek/Macedonian phalanx.

Paratooper for me. Jumping out of a plane a couple of miles in the sky , rapidly descending while dogfights/AA fire goes off all around me... maybe just the sky-diving part will do.
