Kingdoms wont install? Halp!

So i recently bought the gold edition of Medieval 2 Total War. The first disc installs fine and its happy as larry running Medieval 2, the second however doesnt. The setup.exe is now just called blank.exe and whenever i click it all i get is a command window that opens and then closes really quickly and nothing happens after

Anybody have a clue what the problem might be? Snooped around abit and its been mentioned it may be my laptops drivers? they havent been updated since i originally bought my laptop as far as i know so could that be the problem?

Using vista 32-bit on a Acer Aspire 5735z

Any help is greatly appreciated

I was trying to find out what kind of dvd-rom you have in that laptop/notebook but I found everything else but.

If it's one of the blu-ray roms, the last time someone checked the drivers still were not backward compatible nad did not work most of the time.

It says on the box DVD - super multi if thats any help, I highly doubt its blu ray though.

So any other ideas on what may be the problem and any possible fixes? Im completely blank myself but thats primarily due to my lack of knowledge in the computer department..

Can you read the disc in Computer?
Even though it's supposed to be new, but with every store and distributor having shrinkwrap, have you checked it for scratches and dirt?
Can you try to install it on another machine?
Can you install it i a folder like C:\Games?
Did you disable the UAC?
I just wrote these as they came to mind in no particular. The last one maybe the first one to try.

Just disabled UAC and ill try it without that, the discs in a good condition and all the other computers in the house would take aeons to install it anyway.
I just plain out cant install the game, the launch.exe is just called blank.exe and whenever its clicked a command window opens and shuts and nothing happens after.
And I can also look around at the contents of the disc it just wont run the launch. Hope this helps.

Just noticed that upon installing the first disc it doesnt start installing the gold edition, it just installs medieval 2 total war.

The medieval 2 total war installer starts up and installs but the medieval 2 gold installer just sits there not starting, could that be the problem with the kingdoms install?
