    Default Active siege engine towers

    It has been a few years now for some of the more advanced modders to get to know the coding better and some pretty dynamic stuff has been accomplished.

    However I wonder if anyone has taken a look at getting the siege engine towers to shoot ballistas or crossbow bolts?

    I was fairly interested in getting them to work at one time and tried a lot of different stuff but to no avail. I assume that some of the modifications needed would involve coding.

    As far as I know, towers which have supporting units near by will either fire arrows or crossbow bolts, ballast bolts (which can be set on fire to attack siege equipment), really big ballast bolts (which are simply bigger then the previous version) or in the Early periods, they fire cannon balls. When you upgrade walls your upgrading the towers/weapons as well. So maybe I'm not on the same track as you are or you haven't noticed these things?

    I'm interested in seeing Trebuckts on top of towers, or some other type of medieval crude seige weapon.

    For the sake of distinction I will call them assault towers. Yes that is what I am referring to. There are bits and pieces of entries in descr_engine that seem to suggest that some basic framework had been partially worked on, but in the end the feature was not completed.

    It almost appears in some ways that an attempt was made to actually make the assault towers crew served like elephants because one line suggest a number of troops needed to man the tower. I suppose that would be one approach but of course you would not be able to climb them and they would be able to be used on non-seige battlefields which is unacceptable.

    I have wondered if some coding work could be done to tie in Rome Total War coding to fill in the missing pieces of the Medieval 2 coding.

    All this is way out of my league which is why I have made this thread suggestion in case a coder may decide to take the challenge up. It would be really nice to have for some of the new fantasy mods as some of the assault siege engines in some fantasy enviroments were some pretty hideous deadly weapons in their own right.
