    Default Live Debates

I mean whoo this is what I've really wanted all alongfor British politics it'll really seperate the real politicians from the gleaming smiling faces don't you think. Imean it may all still be lies but at least all the lies will be displayed at once where we can pick away at everything thats said and we don't just need to listen to the papers and the news I think this could be really good for British, anyone else got any thoughts?
Yes, friends, governments in capitalist society are but committees of the rich to manage the affairs of the capitalist class.

We've had them in Australia for a long time. They're mostly boring. Plastic-faced liars telling porkies, jiggling stats, talking over each other, completely unwilling to concede anything whatsoever.

Basically a public expose of power-hungry douchebags butting heads. Dumber than the mudpit.

It's fun to watch how they can give a five sentence answer without answering or saying anything.

This is the first time in Britain we'll have televised debates for a General Election.

Personally, I don't plan to watch any of them because they're all s.

In my experience public debates are bs. They are preplanned to reveal as little as possible.

They're just real-time one-upsmanship competitions. Atleast beforehand politician A would make some comment on monday and by tuesday Mr.B would publish something retorting.

Now it'll be fastest wit wins the election. Atleast Eddie Izzard has a real shot now!

Live debates:s Wut? Do you have a youtube video of what you exactly mean? I don't get whats so suuuper about it.

This is the best ways to see TV "politics":

All the top politicians inside a studio + 1 journalist who dares to pound the hardest questions, over and over and over until that sorry ass politician ANSWER the deam question straight and cries and wants to go home to bed

Thorolf was thus armed. Then Thorolf became so furious that he cast his shield on his back, and, grasping his halberd with both hands, bounded forward dealing cut and thrust on either side. Men sprang away from him both ways, but he slew many. Thus he cleared the way forward to earl Hring's standard, and then nothing could stop him. He slew the man who bore the earl's standard, and cut down the standard-pole. After that he lunged with his halberd at the earl's breast, driving it right through mail and body, so that it came out at the shoulders; and he lifted him up on the halberd over his head, and planted the butt-end in the ground. There on the weapon the earl breathed out his life in sight of all, both friends and foes. [...] 53, Egil's Saga
I must tell you here of some amusing tricks the Comte d'Eu played on us. I had made a sort of house for myself in which my knights and I used to eat, sitting so as to get the light from the door, which, as it happened, faced the Comte d'Eu's quarters. The count, who was a very ingenious fellow, had rigged up a miniature ballistic machine with which he could throw stones into my tent. He would watch us as we were having our meal, adjust his machine to suit the length of our table, and then let fly at us, breaking our pots and glasses.

All live debates really tell you is the candidates' ability to lie on the fly.

    LOL!

And its funny you bring up the VP debate as a prime example, when both candidates pretty much said they aren't going to answer the questions and say pretty much whatever the hell they want.

I like how Biden, among others, can field a question, turn it around like the entire topic of conversation was his idea, and then proceed to talk about something completley different.

He did that just recently about AfPak, when he went on and on about Pakistan without hardly ever mentioning India (rather important) -- upon being queried about that lacking, he proceeded to... twist it, then talk more about Pakistan. Even more epic was that the journalist who asked the question couldnt even reframe it again.

He did the same thing when talking to John Stewart (who conveniently forgot to call him out on it) about the stimulus and Recovery.gov

    Genius, or horrifying.

A little of both really. Ironically, I actually kind of find Biden funny (not neccessarily in a bad way). Not sure if it's a good thing that when I think of the VP the word "funny" comes up or not though. He does say some dumb **** sometimes though.

Al Gore and George Bush are two excellent examples of what happens when a politician thinks he is good at this type of thing...but isn't.

God! Well they should rate as the most boring TV shows of the year, Most likely they will grab a prime time slot, Then we will be subject to the 3 stooges trying to look like statesmen.
