    Well i was playing stainless steel mod and saw that in it there are teutonic castles type for teutonic order, poland and lithuania which are in red brick colour.
    Well i tried to add these types of castles to my mod but have failed. i have read some tutorials but no luck.

    I have managed to change castles in strat map for any faction to red brick look just put them in faction variants and it's done.
    But when i do it in battle map i.e by adding mod files in blockset and settlements folder like for poland it does happens partially as it picks up the red brick textures from blockset\textures\faction_variations\poland. But the towers remain circular in shape not conical. Plz see the screenshot for more info.

    I know what the problem is the settlements graphics skeleton for castle start with north_european_castle_a.world
    But in case of teutonic type of castle it starts with
    tc_castle_a.world
    Also i opened tc_castle_a.worldpkgdesc file with notepad add it shows "teutonic_order" meaning it will only work for teutonic order not poland.
    So my question is how can i use red brick castle texture including the conical shaped castle towers with factions poland,lithuania,hungary and russia meaning eastern european factions only.

    you've so far discovered the way to change textures per faction but missed the way to change the models...

    you need to make a new .worldpkgdesc for each castle level and each faction you want to change
    faction specific .worldpkgdesc's over-rule culture specific ones for the in game battle maps (though the custom battle system doesn't work so well) anyway you should be able to get rid of the northern european castles for your factions in the campaign.

    for instance copy old tc_castle_a.worldpkgdesc
    call new one something like tc_castle_a_poland.worldpkgdesc
    (so you can see which is which)

    with hex editor as explained here

    change the part after faction where it says teutonic_order to say poland

    note that teutonic_order has 14 letters in it
    you'll find the integer 14 encoded in the file just after the 'n' of faction

    if you change it to say 'poland' you need to change that number to the encoded integer 6



    (you should probably also change the title section in each - where it says TC_CASTLE_A
    just change a letter each time like TC_CASTLE1A - if you don't change length you don't need to change the encoded number for that..... not doing that won't crash main game, but it confuses the battle editor if you ever use that)

    Well according to the above advice i copied the following files from teutonic\data\settlements\north_european\castles\castle folder to mymod. This is for castle changes only and for poland only.
    So after copying files in my mod folder and giving it the exact same path i opened the tc_castle_a.worldpkgdesc file and edited 2 things in it one was the faction name from teutonic_order to poland and second was to change the culture from northern_european to eastern_european but still no luck i still get the same castle on the battlefield but in red brick textures which it grabs from factions_variations\poland folder in the blockset folder. i have attached the hex screenshot. Plz tell me where I'm wrong not in brief but in detail or stepwise. to get conical red bricked shaped castles for Poland.

    erm, pass! that looks like it should have worked.

    Can you check the region /castle you're having battle at - does it definitely say in descr_strat that poland are the faction creator? (though I'm not sure why you'd be getting the red textures otherwise)

    note that game only reads the .worldpkgdesc when it starts loading, so don't make changes to it while game is running, you won't see them till you quit and restart from fresh.


    also there's a file in the main data folder called
    packagedb.txt

    all it has in it is:
    ; List of directories to search for packages
    .\settlements
    which tells game to look for the .worldpkgdesc's in the settlements folder.
    You maybe need to have copy of that file in your mod-folder too? I've not tried without it.

    Ha Ha Ha HA.
    It worked just the way you said it but with a little difference in the hex file. Firstly As you said i checked the descr_strat.txt file. The castle was Halych which by starting of grand campaign was a polish castle it's descr entry is
    settlement castle
    {
    level town
    region Halych_Province

    year_founded 0
    population 1100
    plan_set default_set
    faction_creator poland.

    Also i placed the packagedb.txt file in the data folder of my mod this was the most essential tip. Guys this file is extremely important otherwise CTD.
    But when i loaded the game I got the same result i.e. same vanilla castle but with red textures.
    But it occurred in my mind about a building called ikoner's studio available only to russia and byzantium by default so i checked it's entry of ne_ikoner's_studio.worldpkgdesc file and saw that even though this building was for 2 cultures namely greek and eastern_european the entry inside .worldpkgdesc was northern_european. So Opened the .worldpkgdesc file for my new castle for poland and changed the culture back to northern_european instead of keeping it eastern_european and loaded the game & guess What it worked guys. You can see the screenshot for the new castle. 1st pic is for stratmap and second pic is for battle map.

    well done for finding the culture problem - I'd only been experimenting with my northern_european factions so far, so hadn't come across it!

    you've just saved me a load of time and heart-ache
