    Default Mongol Recruitment Style

OK so i was playing as the Mongols today, once i conquered the Kwarezmanians and took about half of the Turkish lands, i Now have about 3 Stacks left. So i start thinking about recruiting more units, i have only one castle capable of producing the quality of troops i have been using so i immediately decide to take more fortresses in the middle east. As im thinking about all this i get the image of mongols coming in taking over the city barracks and grabing turkish volunteers putting them on horses and saying ok now you're in this Khorchi unit. I mean there something wrong with that picture.

Wehere as i can see Germans taking Italian land and training the locals in their own style units, plus enlisting the local nobles to fight in German type units. And i can even see the Rus coming into say poland and trying to train druzinas. but the mongols are unique warriors that the Khans gathered directly from the steppes, it makes little sense to have them take over say middle easter castles and recruit their unique horse archers there.

So the idea i had was to make mongol units recruitable as mercenaries only. Have the onlly trrops available for them in cities and castles to be the AOR troops and most basic militias. And in all of the steppe and the eastern desert provinces create a sizable pool of mercenary mongol units available only to them. This will represent the mongol recruitment stule very accurately because they will draw their troops directlly from the steppes. this will make them have to bring over their armies from the east rather then build them everywhere, this is also acurate because the onlly place mongol style warriors were trained was directly on the steppes. This would add some balance because though their units are incrediblle they have to be broght over from the east. And finally it would motivate the player to conquer cuman lands, where as when i play mongols i usually go for the richer Kwarzem and Turkey.

So my question is would it be possible to have a mercenary pool in the eastern provinces that is available only to the Mongols. Would the Mongols when played by the AI actively recruit mercenaries or would the AI have to be altered, and is this at all possible. And finally if no one is interested in doing this could someone tell me how to go about making such changes or where i could learn to do so. i know there's a mod work shop but this is kinda specific.

The Mongols did recruit locals into their armies. There were plenty of Chin solders fighting for the Kahn. And you have to take into account that Mongol armies rarely occupied cities, they lived in Gers. Their families followed the army. Just imagine the sons of the Mongols joining the armies. Troops arriving from the Steppes wouldn't have been common in Genghis Kahn’s time because the Mongol nation followed him to war. Only a few herdsmen remained. I can't account for successors of Genghis, but this is the method he used to recruit. Hope this helps.

Concerning your question whether it is technically possible to implement a mongol-only merc recruitment pool, I cannot answer that - sorry.

But as was said before, the mongols recruited locals into their armies. Probably not elite units, but on the one hand elite units take a lot of time to recruit (so there's a lot of time to mongolize the respective settlement) and on the other hand, mongols were "promoted" from lesser units to more elite units (and sons of members of the units closest to the khan served in those elite units, too).

    1. The Mongols used plenty of local recruits. There were plenty of Chinese, Korean, Cumans etc. in the Mongolian armies. I would speculate most if not all conquering armies used conquered peoples in their armies. Why not? Even if for nothing more than cannon fodder, better them than your men.
    2. No it is not possible. The concept of mercenaries is that they can be hired by anyone in that area. What you can do is make the mercenaries directly recruitable through a building and an AOR.
