Being that I do not own a single movie she is in ( and I have lots of movies)..my vote is no![]()
Have you heard of Robert DeNiro? Look him up.
I have not seen a lot of her work but she was good in Doubt and the Deer Hunter.
She can sit at home and fade into obscurity waiting for that great role that will never come along or she can spend her golden years in the media spotlight doing what she loves for a lot of money. She made her choice and I can't blame her, it's not like there are a lot of good roles for women period, let alone a menopausal mother of four.
But I think Bette Davis is the best actress of all time.
You are entitled to your uninformed opinion but she is a great actress... by your own definition.

Didnt really like her in Thirteen but then the whole movie just bugged me other then Holly Hunter who imo was great in it, for her age yes it was a good performance. Down in the Valley Ill agree but more to do with Norton then her. The Wrestler, havent seen cause I cant stand Rourke unless he is so heavily made up like in Sin CityNot saying she doesnt have something cause clearly she isnt Lindsay Lohan type actress where she is hot and no talent just havent seen anything yet from her like Hathaway has done but she IS only 22 so lots of time. I did get a major kick out of her as Queen in True Blood but that isnt exactly high brow type role.
He was good in Diner and Barfly.
Hmm, well one of the best if not the best.
I think that Katharine Hepburn might be the greatest actress of all time. I really can't say anyone for certain but she is the closest I can come to calling someone that.

Hard to believe, shes been in a LOT of movies and many great ones.... are you sure you even know who she is?Being that I do not own a single movie she is in ( and I have lots of movies)..my vote is no
I find it hard to believe that someone who claims to own "a lot of movies" doesn't own one of these.Meryl Streep Filmography

why, because they are almost all romantic comedies. She has done some good movies, but nothing that I would care to spend money to own. Sorry but I judge greatness by the breadth of their works and if you stick to only one genre then I don't think that says much. She is a good actress, but in no way great in my book.
She is a good actress I mean I enjoyed The Devil wears Prada but then a year latter she goes and does crap like Mamma Mia.
The best female actresses in no order IMO are -
- Julia Roberts
- Toni Collette
- Helen hunt
- Sigourney Weaver
- Kate Winslet
- Katharine Hepburn
- Ava Gardner
I think a lot of actors/actresses in general take roles in movies that turn out to be bad just as Streep does. Probably all of those you listed there are about the same in terms of that, just you dont remember a terrible movie they were in or they are like Katharine Hepburn where you never see their bad films at all, but they do exist.

I hate meryl streep she doesn't convince me in anything she's in.
My list:
Emily Watson
Charlize Theron (For Monster mostly)
Emma Thompson
Samantha Morton
Angela Lansbury (solely for The Manchurian Candidate in which she was terrifying rather than Murder she wrote!)
I like 'chameleon' actresses who play varied roles.

Wow, this thread makes me realize just how indifferent I am about female actors. Not that I want to be, but none of the listed actresses wow me aside from Streep.
I guess mine would have to be Audrey Hepburn due to my love of old films, and my eternal crush on her.
I do think there are some very talented young actresses though. I don't know what she is thinking with some of the roles she has chosen, but Anne Hathaway has massive talent. Phenomenal voice too.

One of the greatest yes but Ill echo Hepburn>all though Id say Audrey not KatherineI still find it funny two of greatest actress of all time have same last name but arent related but then Im easily amused. There is just something about the old actresses that makes them feel more special then modern ones, that isnt to take away from Streep because if she was born in those times she'd have same thing going.
Laugh this is pretty much EXACTLY my thoughts. For one imo Audrey Hepburn is simply one of the most beautiful actresses ever and her talent/acting ability was simply amazing, from pure acting pov I think only Lauren Bacall gave same type of vibe on screen though in drastically different ways. And yep Hathaway I agree she is imo one of the most talented young/current actresses but also dont get her role selection.I guess mine would have to be Audrey Hepburn due to my love of old films, and my eternal crush on her.

Still one of the best scenes ever from Bacall.
And for Audrey...I swear she is just amazing.
