Default Is This any different from Extended Cultures?

Was thinking of downloading this, but since it seems kind of like the same thing like Extended Cultures (Except with 3 roman houses), I wanted to post this to learn if there were any major differences in gameplay and stuff.

I thought XC is a beta version only.

first of all check this thread out, it asks the same question just in the XC forum: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=316725
second of all while the visuals are the same there are quite a few differences already, and more to come. troop balance, ancillaries and traits and construction trees are just some of the current differences. those as well as others are being worked on by both XGM and XC teams.

XGM only has two Roman factions, one functions as the primary Roman faction while the other is a rebel sub-faction.

XC has the roman rebel faction if your not playing on Senate mode.

Most differences are under the hood.
XC has different balancing, which makes it halfway between 1 and 2hp, the economy makes for a slower game and rosters are treated in a different way.

The best thing is to try them both as they offer quite different gameplay and there will be less similarities as development goes on.
It's really two different modding philosophies branching from the same tree, the good thing is that you can try them both on the same RTW install without problems

BTW, XC4 is "beta" in the sense that there are some features still being expanded, it's very stable and playable without problems.

I play both, and since I have one installed with BI.exe and the other with just normal RTW, there's even more differences, so that's even nicer.

Well, XGM only scratches the surface of BI features in many things, XC is designed to take full advantages of all nooks and crannies, with some features that are unique to it.
