Default Im sorry, i have to show this off

This battle is probably my biggest win. My King was attacking Cordoba, and the Moors managed to bring about 3500 men to prevent me from taking the city.

So, since i couldnt run away, i decided to fight.

    i placed my infantry and archers in a formation like this: (i= infantry ; s=spearmen ; r=ranged)

    ______________________ i i i
    ______________________s r r s

(basically, a U with very short legs )

And sent my cavalry (3 Jinetes, 1 Crusader Knights , General and 1 Feudal Knights) to the flanks.
They had 1 trebuchet and 1 catapult, so, i charged it first. Then went for the General of the first group, and their ranged. Meanwhile my infantry had just engaged theirs, and they were locked in battle , so my cavalry could move with relative safety, so i took out their cavalry and the archers, then charged their infantry's rear, causing them to disband. Then , after capturing most of their fleeing troops, i reformed the line, and repeat the same deal.
When i finished this battle, i couldnt believe it !!! Naturally, i executed the 1342 prisoners i took.
    muhahaha

In any other situation, i wouldnt have done it.
But the Moors are rich. And they could afford the ransom, and i couldnt just let 1300 of them walk away.
    So i executed them.

BTW, this was done on VH/VH 6.2

Nicely done, i love when you get those victories you weren't supposed to.

I also dont have pic but i have just taken on about 8000 Turks (in 3 separate forces), with 3000 mongols (cav only). Its not as incredible because i had 3000 of the fines mongol cavalry, but they did also have good Saracen troops. its just the battle was beyond epic.

If you're wondering about the huge numbers im using the unit multiplier mod for RR/RC, if you guys have high end machines i highly recommend it, ive never had so much fun fighting battles.

    Cheers

Nicely done. I don't have a picture, but I managed to take on 888 Danes, comprised of Huscarls, Norse Archers, Spear Militia and the like, against my poor force of 3 Lithuanian Cavalry, and Faction Prince, (with 6 Dread), and managed to defeat them all, with having lost only 7 Generals Bodyguards (On small, my Faction Prince has 11 Bodyguards, and 24 Horse Archers to a unit), and then managed to get another Heroic Victory after I had been besieging Visby after they sallied the following turn.

    thanks for the compliments guys
I think that the fact that this General having 8 Chivalry helped my infantry not to retreat, since i didnt have any soldiers routing.
Now he's changed to King Afonso the Conqueror, since hes not all that chivalrous.
    Still has 4 chiv tough

What does chivalry do, exactly? And what does dread do? I'd have to guess that chivalry makes your troops less likely to retreat, and dread makes the enemy more likely to retreat?

    Pretty much.

Chivalry boosts the morale of your troops, while dread lowers the morale of the enemy troops.

    Additionally:

Chivalry increases public order and population growth
Dread increases public order through fear. No affect on population growth.

depends on the style you play.
i prefer chivalry, because overall, it has more benefit(increases populations, keeps you nice with the pope, additional morale for the troops).
But i always keep a General with dread around, so i can execute the prisoners when i can.
but, like i said, depends on your style

I usually prefer chivalry too because of the population growth bonus. But damn it's fun playing with a full dread general

Full dread generals are much cooler on the battlefield, but bad at parties ( EX: hello ! Whats your name ? *stabs multiple times and mounts head on pike*). Despite this, they really are fun. In my knights templar campaign i played a while ago, my Grandmaster (cant even remember his name, was the councilor you start out with, had a funny german name... Gottfried, that was it !) was just a total jerkwad. I recall that he destroyed the seljuk sultanate and the fatimid caliphate nigh single handedly, he was my greatest war hero (not general, he often lost command points for some reason) and i made sure it was he who would take all those juicy war crimes. Its nice when all the blame goes to one man, esp when its your Faction Leader, because once he dies your past "sins" are "forgiven".

Ah yes, Gottfried, good times. It was he who marched into Medina, the last stronghold of muslim resistance in greater egypt, and slaughtered the population, then proceeded to burn down the Ka'aba (or whatever, that super-duper holy site with the giant CUBE) for a juicy 4000 florins.

Chivalry will get you powerful empires, but damn, dread is just fun. On a personal level, .

Funny thing is, despite all those terrible unholy deeds and blood on his hands, he was extremely pious. Go figure

Chivalry is a bit more difficult to handle, but is worth much more on the battlefield (for me, at least) add the population growth bonus and you're done.
Back on topic: I one time found my leader and heir cornered with only a few archers and infantry (no spears ). I was playing the Kingdom of Jerusalem, and battling those way-too-powerfull Mongols. As my spies had reported the mayority of their forces heading through Russia, I wasn't too carefull. Than, at once, two stacks (from the type that's spawned) attacked my undefended rear. Somehow, I managed to survive. My infantry was anihilated (no really, no man still stood), my archers heavy wounded (one man in five still could walk, half of them were running away) and my Heir and Leader reduced to only 2-3 bodyguards, but still alive. I had killed about 8000 out of 9000, losing about 1000. of my 1200 army. Immediately three command for my leader, 2 chivalry (one from the battle, one from the releasing of 2000 men), about +3 morale and 5 hitpoints.

Too bad that the Chivalry titles arent as cool as dread titles.
    The Mauler > The Humane
    The Tyrant > The Saint

    etc...

That's the only bad thing about it. There's nothing else you guys can come up with, I guess?
