Default WTF House Rep. Michelle Bachmann

In the House, Republican Rep. Michele Bachmann prayed for defeat of the bill.
    http://wcco.com/health/franken.bachm...2.1379282.html
"Oh Father, I thank you for these moments we that have before your throne. And Father, you say in your word, 'Who ascends to my Holy Hill? He who has clean hands and a pure heart.'

Oh God, we say to you we do not have clean hands and a pure heart, no one does. You say in your word that not one is righteous, not even one; that your eyes go to and fro across the earth, looking for one Lord, who will call out to you and who will truly follow your will.

Oh Lord God, it is you who make us worthy. And it is you who make us righteous. Lord Jesus, we confess our sins before you. We confess them Lord, and we turn from them in repentance.

Lord, as leaders of our country Lord, I pray as a stand-in for myself, I pray as a stand-in for others Lord, who may not have looked to you and all your ways, Father, as leaders.

Father, we want to represent you in the way that we should. And so Lord, I ask for forgiveness for that and our own country. I first thank you for the leaders that you have given to us, Father. Godly men and women. Godly men and women who called out to you and who tried so hard to be followers of your will. But Lord, we know that we have failed. That we haven't done as we should.

And so that's why now Lord, we ask for your forgiveness and we repent and we turn from that. And we say, 'Oh Lord, we deserve your wrath, but would you yet give our nation mercy?' We ask for your mercy. We cry out to you, oh God.

This is our moment and this is our time. Lord, we are at the end of ourselves and now we need you. We need you Lord, and we ask, we know that you are our all-in-all. The Alpha and the Omega. The beginning and the end. And so Lord it is to you who is the author and the finisher of our Faith."
Seriously, bring in god to pray for the bill to be defeated. She sounds like a ing loon.

Wait? Did she actually pray INSIDE the Chamber or not? If so: Holy ing . If not: She's entitled to pray about it if she wants; even if she is an idiot.

I'm an atheist and I'm praying for its defeat too.

Last week I sacrificed a kitten to Baal.

That would make you a pagan, more specifically a worshiper of the semitic gods. Atheist dont believe in any gods. Besides, baal doesnt like kittens or cats as a sacrificial gift, you should of sacrificed a bull.

Hey, if Senator Reid can halt the reading of a bill unconstitutionally, the Republicans can be unconstitutional in mixing government with religion. From what I understand, prayers are said in the chambers of Congress at the beginning of each session. The atheistic culture hasn't taken over just yet, but the fact that anyone has a problem with this is telling. 50 years ago, no one would have blinked an eye if a Senator said a prayer. What a difference we have today...

Even Canada, a massively atheistic nation, has "God" in its anthem. Don't be so quick to offense.

Its hardly unconstitutional, since prayers are offered at the beginning of each session as you already said.

Yes, Justicar, the Matthew passage was reverse-psychology. He wanted to show the rich man that there is more to righteousness than what he had been doing to attain it. A simple example, not a command to strip down and give every last thing away.

Yeah, true. It was pretty good.

Although, like I said, she is just giving a pious politician's Christianese prayer, like they all do, so the interpretation of Matthew would be irrelevant in any case.

Did I mention that I don't like Christianese?

People who react to prayers in Congress with "Holy ****ing ****"? If nothing else, it offends the sensibilities of those people.

My reaction was more to the idea of somebody praying inside the house of government for the defeat of a bill meant to give people the option of healthcare. I find it a remarkably heartless and unfeeling thing to do

It would be if the bill actually gave people healthcare options.

Well, that's the whole point, isn't it? Most Christians actually do have the welfare of their fellow human beings on mind, you know. Representative Bachmann obviously believes that this is a real threat to the liberty of her country, and believes it will not help anyone with their health care. The point is to insure people, apparently, even though anyone can walk into an emergency room in America today and receive treatment. It has nothing to do with health care, in her opinion.

The only way anyone can think Republicans want to "stop people from getting health care" is if they believe Howard Dean's statement: "The difference between Democrats and Republicans is that we (Democrats) don't want children to go to bed hungry at night."

We both know that charity simply isn't a great substitute. Yeah, charity is great, but it cannot be something relied upon or expected out of people.

Public healthcare does not threaten civil nor economic liberty in way so I fail to understand that point. If the republicans were at all concerned with liberty, then they really need to take a step back and look at their own views. Using the idea of liberty can not ever be something the Republicans can logically cling to, for then they become libertarians, which are arguably the last of the old Republican party.

This anti-religious sentiment is getting completely absurd. Obama invokes God fairly regularly. If it a little religious speech makes you uncomfortable but throwing away billions and trillions as well as the future of our nation completely passes you by, I think you need to get your priorities straight.
To be governed is to be watched, inspected, directed, numbered, regulated, enrolled, indoctrinated, controlled, checked, estimated, valued, censured, and commanded, by creatures who have neither the right, wisdom, nor virtue to do so. To be governed is to be at every operation, at every transaction noted, registered, taxed, measured, numbered, assessed, licensed, admonished, reformed, corrected, and punished. It is, under pretext of public utility, and in the name of the general interest, to be placed under contribution, drilled, fleeced, exploited, monopolized, extorted, and robbed; then, at the slightest resistance, to be repressed, fined, vilified, harassed, abused, disarmed, choked, imprisoned, judged, condemned, shot, deported, sacrificed, sold, and betrayed; and to crown all, mocked, ridiculed, derided, outraged, and dishonored. -Pierre-Joseph Proudhon

I oppose the bill, but to call upon god to reach down from heaven and stop its implementation reaks of non-Christian vices.

Reading the article definitely gives a greater sense of apprehension. While Republicans are busy calling Al Franken "petty" (come on, aren't they like like 15 years too late on that one?), they are of course mute on colleagues going to Evangelist preachers for guidance on their legislating habits.

That disturbs the hell out of me.

It really shouldn't come as any surprise. Bachmann is a far-right evangelical Christian who won re-election in '08 by less than 3 percentage points.
