    Default Piety for generals

I'm playing a campaign as HRR and my heir is my major general at the moment. He does an excellent job, but the problem is, he is an heretic (no piety at all). I used to put priests into the generals army in vanilla and other mods to solve that problem, but my heir has already three priests with him and there hasn't been any change in the piety for over 20 turns.
Anybody an idea how to solve that problem?

Piety can improve with some ancillaries, you may want to transfer 1 or several ancillaries that give some piety to this general.

Except from this... some traits may give more piety but i am not sure which ones if any (in SS, there were traits like "pilgrimage in Jerusalem" which gave a +3 piety for example; but in DLV i don't know).

Maybe if you build a cathedral and your general is the governor, will he acquire more piety ? Came someone confirm this ?

I myself rarely bother with piety since i have never seen any inquisitor roaming around

Piety also controls who is the governor of a particular city ( The family member with the highest piety). So low piety can be an advantage if your best governors don't have particularly high piety. ( You don't want the wrong person governing when more than one character are in a city.

Piety increases the general's effect on the religious conversion of a province.

I think it also improves relations with the pope to have a very pious king.

When I want more piety I tend to have a priest as a part of my leader's and heir's retinue when they are out raping and pillaging. I also focus recruitment of priests and temple building on settlements supervised by my heir or leader. And following invasion of an another religion's land I tend to send in an army of priests and keep the general governing while the population is converted, he might get some credit.
