"Dark Lord of Mordor" Faction

Just a question, but what is the Dark Lord of Mordor Faction? They appeared randomly at about turn 50 or so. The Eye of Sauron is their banner, and at first I thought this was just an image that glitched and appeared there, but then I realized they were a faction. Not sure if they have any territory, but they have no alliances and have only one full-stack army whose general has a maxed-out command skill. So like I said, what purpose does this faction serve?

It is like the Papal States faction of the Evil Factions. The Dark Lord (pope) initiates campaigns and unites the evil factions under his banner.

their only territory its a unaccesible zone at north-right of map, put toggle_fow cheat and ull see it (idk the cheat exactly)

In vanilla he's there from the beginning. It's only in RR/RC that he appears later - this is meant to ensure that invasions (like crusades) don't take place too early in the game.

Probably but the other evil factions need the Pope too. Maybe some day the whole system will be reworked. If Sauron is released as a playable unit for example.
