    Default A faction for Iberia

I keep forgetting to ask: what faction should we have for Iberia? Our options are the native Iberians in the south (but north of Gades), the Celtiberians toward the Pyrenees, or the Lusitanni in the west. Depending on which one we make a primary faction, one of the others will end up in the superfaction/as a minifaction.

I'm leaning toward the native Iberians, since we've got a lot of Gauls already and the Lusitanni were never particularly expansionist.

I vote for that hidden Japanese faction with samurai and robots and stuff

I would think Celtiberians here, mainly for the Carthage factor. If the faction is too far to the south, it might impede carthaginian expansion. Which is strictly speaking what we want, but the computer never does it well - thus if Ilipa and/or Carthago Nova was to fall early on Carthage won't expand decently...

Are the units going to be roughly the same for each of these factions? It would be nice to have some variety, although that still wouldn't want me to play as the Lusitaani except as part of the TIC/FOE campaign.

I'd lean towards the Lusitanni, because I thought they resisted the Roman influence for longer and gave Sertorius the inspiration for the ambush tactics he used?

Then again, could you not put them all into one faction, perhaps with just AOR units to demonstrate the difference?

Who are Los Vaqueros de Neal?

Actually, everyone on the peninsular contested Roman influence for a long time. The last to fall were the Gallaecians due to their location). I'd say the Celtiberians should be a faction. All the Lusitani did was resist Rome well. Then again, that's all the Celtiberians did as well, but at least they are an alliance between several tribes.

Let's just make this clear: The Celtiberians didn't fight like Gauls. They fought similarly to the natives, except with the gladius instead of the falcata, and with better cavalry. Take a look at the FOE previews for more details.

Hmmm...you guys make a pretty convincing case for the Celtiberians. This should make the unit list creation interesting. I'll probably use the FOE units for the Celts and Celtiberians, which I think will end up saving some DMB slots. I'm not sure how to differentiate the various Celtic factions in other parts of Europe, though. I'm worried we'll have the Celts, Galatians, and Celtic superfaction looking pretty much indistinguishable.

    Iberian list:
    Slingers
    Caetrati tribesmen
    Scutarii falcata
    Elite scutarii warriors
    Caetrati cavalry
    Elite scutarii cavalry

    North Iberian list:
    Slingers
    Cantabrian cavalry
Caetrati falcata as the line infantry (mountainous areas tended to have lighter infantry)

    Lusitanni list:
    slingers
    Lusitanni caetrati
    Caetrati tribesmen
    Caetrati falcata

The Lusitanni are cool and all, but I just don't think they were organized and aggressive enough to deserve a faction slot of their own.

How did Celtiberian cavalry compare to Iberian and Celtic cavalry?

Sorry, I forgot to explain the Los Vaqueros del Neal. That's Spanish for "the Cowboys of Neal," and is a /. reference.

So the playable on-map faction for the Iberians would now be called the Celtiberians, and the Lusitanni would now only exist as Area of Recruitment / Mercenary units?

Yes and no. The Lusitanni would probably go in the superfaction.

Which would just be a grouping of a few less factions under a different name with their troops as AoR, right?
