Can I unclock unplayble factions in Empire Total War myself, and how can I do it. What risks am I taking by doing this?

All you need is here. If you keep a back up of startpos.esf file there is no risk.

Well What I mean is how do I make a Unplayble faction, playable. Because I am thinking about getting Empire Total War, but I want to find a way to make the Persians a playble faction first. I know there are mods that made every faction playble, but I'm only interested to make the Persians playble.

The link leads to tutorials not mods. Just follow the link and pick the right tutorial.

I know that I just mean there are other mods out there like A Proper Empire : Terra Incognita that unlock all the factions. I'm not trying to create a new faction just to make unplayble one playbel. You're pretty quick on those responses by the way. So let me get this straight all I need to do is replace a playable faction with the unplayable one I want? Sorry if I'm giving you alot of trouble.

Here you're saying: "but I'm only interested to make the Persians playble" and the proper answer was given.

Here you are saying something else: "So let me get this straight all I need to do is replace a playable faction with the unplayable one I want?" Here you are saying something deferent. To make a faction unplayable reverse the procedure of making a faction playable. I've tried Persians playable and Poland unplayable.

In any case all the tutorials you need are there I've said and are pretty quick and easy to be done.

Unlike previous ETW games, you cannot "unlock" non-playable factions through the "traditional" methods (conquering them or beating the campaign). Nations are divided into two camps: major and minor. All major factions are playable from the beginning of the game, and only major factions are playable. Thus, you are stuck with them essentially forever. I seem to recall reading somewhere that CA elected not to make the minors playable due to some kind of stability issue or something, but in practice problems with playing minor nations are few and far between.

You can try downloading an edited starpos.esf file (the best one is http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=288139). Follow the installation instructions to the letter (as in, actually back up the original esf file if you don't want to reinstall the entire game should you encounter that wonderful event known as "epic failure"), and you should be able to choose any faction in the Grand Campaign menu screen.

    I hope that helps.
