Ransom'd prisoners re-attacked
So I am playing as Dale and was taking the King down to fight Rhun. So I was getting reinforcements to meet up with them but they had to cross over a bridge in Rhun territory didn't think about it just walked them over. Rhun had an army attacking me that I was unaware of and they jumped in and slaughtered my reinforcements. 3 horses were captured but during the battle I had tried to cause as many casualties as possible making these valuable horses rank up a fair bit. So i thought ok I'll coffer up like 30 florins for 3 or so horses and retrain them into a good unit. So I do it and then they retreat into my territory and Rhun carry on their turn. But then they attack them again!! Surely you can't attack them again I just coughed up ransom for those troops. They were subsequently massacred and ransoming them was a complete waste of time.
Is there any way to keep ransom'd troops safe until my turn where I can move them away?

No there is not. Rhun clearly still had movement points left.

Would you have let your enemy go?

If they had just given me money to let their prisoners go probably. But this doesn't normally happen because the loser usually retreats back to a settlement but we were in wilderness..

In fairness, turns do take a year. Your men were released and tried to get back to friendly territory. By the time the enemy attacked them a second time, they were fair game as soldiers who'd been given ample time to leave.
